Oakes (7032), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 28, 2003 Well, I thought it was good. Cloudy reddish-amber. Piney, citrusy aroma. Pithy hop flavours. Toasty. Lighter rendition of the style. Nothing special but I wouldn’t kick it out of bed for eating crackers. hopdog (4779), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 28, 2005 Bottle acquired in trade with SuIIy (thanks!). Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with a smaller sized white head. Aromas of mainly grapefruit with an earthiness to it. Tastes of grapefruit with some citrus and oranges. Lightly bitter. HogTownHarry (3361), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jul 26, 2006 Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Clear amber with a decent white head. Grassy/funky hop aroma, some sweet malt - more a UK-style IPA in the nose.Taste is grassy and generic hop-bitter, not much malt or body - ehh. Weak, very lightly astringent mouthfeel - really not too good. Eyedrinkale (3115), Beer Town, New York, USA May 25, 2005 Tap @ brewpub. One of the few beers that this place also bottle, this is anything but a Pleazure. Amber color with a small head. Aroma and taste are medicinal with flavors of cardboard, chalk and rubbing alcohol. Hops tasted soggy and stale. Could be the worst IPA from an American brewery I’ve ever had. They should be ashamed. Gets points just because I finished it. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Jan 13, 2006 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with Sully, thanks Mike!) I’ve never heard of this brewery, so I wasn’t expecting such a blast of hops from this IPA. But wow, that’s pretty hoppy! Very floral and bitter hops, also fairly citrusy and piney, is very much in control from sip to finish. Citrus is more a grapefruit rind flavor and mouthfeel. The floral nature is just too much for me, though, and without a sufficient maltiness to balance out the floral nature, this IPA isn’t really to my liking. But it sure has a lot of flavor, I’ll give ’em that. Prominent pine and citrus hoppiness in the nose, though it’s not all that aromatic overall. Medium bodied, nicely carbonated, fairly crisp on the back end, but the sharp hoppiness is a bit harsh on the palate. Golden amber in color and nearly clear in appearance. Pretty standard off-white head rises to half an inch, settles to a ring, and leaves some spotty and patchy lacing on the glass. A decent IPA, but not quite the style of IPA I prefer.
