Based on the recipe for Royal Best Bitter brewed by the original Royal Tunbridge Wells Brewing Company in the 1980s. This is a chestnut brown classic best bitter. The full-bodied beer is created from a mixture of pale and crystal malts, then bittered with Challenger hops with Goldings, used for aroma.

Cask, handpump @ The Liberty Bounds JDW, Tower Hamlet, City of London.
Produced a deep, tawny copper and sparkling in the lights. Head a solid, compact and satiny pad of white. Bready, doughy and nutty nose with hints of dried dark fruit and sherryish spice. Heavily nutty in the mouth with a peaking bitter edge on the swallow and an earthy, woody and dry finish that shows good length. Tangy, sweet raisins and dates fill out the rest, The body considerably light but it has good presence. There is a touch of blackened raisins in the finish also and a little smoke that resides on the palate between each sip. Thought this to be a flavoursome little number and in peak form when I tried it back in August. A characterful bitter at least

Bottle conditions. Light brown beer. Smells slightly rubbery. Bit of rubber in the mouth with some subtle orange. Slightly nutty, slightly raspberry jelly. Quite a tangy nettle hop bite on the end. Nice.

Cask Conditioned handpump Pommellers Rest London. (One of my twelve lost (for now) notes, so this is as well as I remember) . Amber coloured beer. Really grainy and very biscuity on the end. Not very pleasing or pleasant. No hop levels to speak of and that grainy texture is surely not desirable.
