This dark brew is a very unique creation originally conceived at home by one brewer. It is a combination of styles that came from his love of Stouts and Porters coupled with his thirst for bitterness and aroma found in an IPA. It is an IPA with a heart of darkness, an India Black Ale.

~Resinous piney hop aroma with chocolate and roast in background. ~Pours black with small creamy brown lasting head. ~More roast in flavor than in aroma. Roasty, slightly burnt malty flavor, tar and tobacco, with big backbone of piney resinous hops. ~Full to medium bodied with med low CO2, some astringency, lasting burnt and resinous tar finish. ~Not my favorite style of beer, but this one was enjoyable. Could only drink one.

Bottle; poured a black color with a huge enormous head. LIngered forever. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, cocoa, earthy hops. As these hybrids go, the flavor initially impressed me in the subtleties. A nice balanced between the roasted and hoppy notes.

Poured from the bottle into a shaker. Aroma is of hops, citrus hops. Flavor takes the "dark side"of this black ipa on that it is almost pure roast flavors, coffee, somebitterness. Overall well balance with the roast and hops. Really really good example of a black ipa.

(Bottle, courtesy of BMan1113VR) very dark brown with soapy tan bubbles. Nose of umami, brown sugar, sweet, hoppy, and orange peel. Taste of chocolate, moderately rich, slight metal, bitter dark chocolate. Nice mouthfeel and linger.

Bottle courtesy bu11zeye and BMan1113VR. Pours a very dark brown to red color. Light ring of tannish head. Aroma is sweet coffee ground, roasted malts and a fading gentle hopped sensation. Flavor is very roasted and slightly smoky. Small hop flavor on the palate. Finishes dry and roasted.

Bottle from K&B. Deep brown, almost black with a creamy beige head that left behind some nice lacing. Nice piny hop nose with a good amount of roasted malts in the for and back ground. Roasty on the palate with lite - medium hop bitterness in the finish.

Bottle. Pours with a roasty black body and a thick light brown, creamy head. Good lace left on the glass. Aromas of pine, citrus (orange essence), baked bread, roast, coffee grounds, espresso. Maybe a bit too much roast (We will see). Flavor is at first, big, acrid, roasty, acidic roasted malts. Next sip still has the acidic and acrid character but adds some roast and bitterness (maybe some citrus hops). Final impression is still outwardly acidic dark roast. Really acrid. Light citrus character. Oppressive bitterness which is mainly from the roast. Not super pleasant. Medium bubbles. Roasty finish. Not my favorite beer of this style by a long shot. At this point its kind of a mess.
