Golden in color with an assertive hop bitterness. This beer won gold medals at The Great American Beer Festival in 1989 and 1990. A true American Classic.

On tap @ Stone - Pours a clear golden color with a small of white head. Light carbonation and lacing. Has a pungent hop aroma. Flavor is caramel malt and pine hops. Slight bitter, astringent aftertaste. Medium body. A decent IPA.

On tap. Paper thin white head sat atop a dull copper colored brew. A nice web of lacing formed all the way down the glass. The aroma was spice and pine hops, no real citrus of floral hops to be found. Disapointingly the flavor followed suit. I was hoping for more balance but alas, none was found. Dominated by spice and pine hops with little if any citrus or floral hops to be found. Thin, watery mouthfeel. Not that good.

Best IPA in the Sacramento area, in my opinion. Great citrus and spice aroma, wonderful medium body and a taste that is exactly what I expect in an IPA - bready sweet up front, followed by a great hop bittering that doesn’t overpower. Finished dry, with a mild lingering bitterness.

on tap @ Owl Club, Roseville CA. Hazy golden color, weak aroma. Flavors hit both sweet and bitter, but without much balence. Suprisingly drinkable, but not a quality ipa.

On firkin at the triple rock firkin fest 4/1/2006. Worst aroma of any beer that I drank that day, for some reason. Taste was OK. It manages to be both harsh in the bittering hop profile and a bit too sweet at the same time. Unbalanced. Not recommended.

Nothing really wrong with this beer, but nothing outstanding either. Malty sweet and fairly tamed with the hop profile. Nothing really jumps up and bites you ass with this beer. Drinkability is high, but it’s nothing extraordinary.

22 oz bomber, thanks Oakes. hazy deep golden/orange beer with a thick white head. Sweet citrusy aroma initially, with some more intense woody/earthy notes as the beer warms a bit. Aroma is a bit muted. Flavour is surprisingly rich given the soft aroma. Some strong resiny woody cohumulone flavour but also some cascade type flavour as well. Finishes very dry. There is plenty of clean, crisp maltiness backing it up but this is a definitely a hop accented brew. Decent, but nothing terribly new either.

Tap @ Barclay’s. Clear amber color with minimal white head. Dry, bitter aroma with notes of sweet fruit. Not particularly complex, but not bad either. I’d drink this again but it doesn’t stand out among IPAs.

Bottled. Clear pale amber. Hoppy aroma of lychee and apricot. Dryish with slender body and clean mouthfeel. Salty lychees dominate the flavours. Really bitter finish.

Golden colour. Expressively floral, woodsy aroma. Bitter, even body admittedly straight from the Brewing 101 textbook but fairly decent quality level. Dry, slightly herbal finish.
