COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
According to the bartender, the Purple in the name of this beer is either a tribute to the name/code word for Bootlegging gangs or it was used as some sort of encryption code during World War 2.

On tap @ Brix Sunset Beach. Was hoping this would actually be purple, but it’s merely amber. Smells of caramel, sugar, and fruity esters. Pear, grape, honey, and grain. Light herbal and floral hops. The flavor is sweet and sugary. Honey, grain, and caramel. Some hints of fruit, light hops, and grape. Meh.

pint at flannys 7/29/12. golden brownish color...nearly amber with a white head. aroma and flavor are very fruity....bruised apples, bubble gum, grain light brown sugar. it is on the sweeter side but finishes with a mild bitterness.6/4/6/3/13-

Draught. Arbitrary score 4/5 for Appearance, as nighttime conditions prevented correct assessment. Bit spicy nose, sweetish, clove-y. Sweetish-bitterish taste, again a yeasty-spicy finish. Good balance, but rather dull flavour. Medium carbonated, medium bodied, tad falling flat. Technically speaking one, but one very dull Maibock.

On tap at the brewpub. It pours golden with an off white head. The aroma is a little sweet and malty with some caramel and a good dose of noble hops for balance. The flavor is well balanced as well with a slightly noticeable alcohol kick. The body was full, and I really enjoyed the malt character on this one. Nice job.

Tap @ Hamilton’s Tavern. Pours a mostly clear medium amber color with a small off white head. Some roasted malts, cereal grains and a touch of hops.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Honey and light malt aroma. Honey and malt flavor with light spice. Medium bodied. Honey and malt lingers with light spice.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours darkish amber with a white smear for head. Light caramel and mild fruit aromas. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is quite caramel with a somewhat bitter fruitiness. That purple is making me think a hint of concord grape. A bit unusual. Finishes more bitter than not.

Not very bold. Flavors are muted. Not much aroma. Solid but not my favorite style.

On tap at the brewery. This copper ale poured with a thin beige head and a floral aroma. There is a strong caramel malt base with some carbonated hoppiness. It’s slightly harsh but still drinkable.

10 ounce sample tasted at the brewpub. Fruity, strawberry-like aroma with some light metallic banana notes present as well. Mild to moderately hazy coppery honey colored body with an off-white head. Lightly sweet caramelly start which becomes surprisingly grainy and roasted/toasted in the middle. Finishes herbal, earthy, and bitter with these hops. Some mildly metallic lager notes. A fair brew, but pretty forgettable.
