3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle… Most beautiful, clear, rose-tinged copper ale I’ve ever seen. Wow! It bears a relatively small, creamy, khaki head. Pretty good retention. The nose is of sweet maple syrup and brown sugar flanked by a mild citrus fruit component. Full-bodied and chewy with laid-back carbonation. The flavor is harshly bitter and it’s not of the pleasant variety – metallic lupulin sears the rear of my mouth, palate and the sides of my tongue. I can’t determine whether it’s the heat from the hops or the heat from alcohol, but there’s a boozy feel here. Finishes acutely bitter and hot with a lingering medicinal, cough syrup aftertaste.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Fairly heavy aroma of wood and candy sugar. Crystal clear dark brown with a ruby tinge and a decent tan head. Right up front there’s a good bitter hop/tannic bite with an equally strong alcohol bite. Molasses, dark candy sugar, toasted wood and bittersweet chocolate flavors abound. Hops go from start to finish on this with mostly flavoring rather than aroma, and they’re heavy on the tongue with a nice earthiness. Interesting balance between a light-medium body, a heavy flavor, rounded mouthfeel and a dry, woody aftertaste This would be a good dessert beer with anything containing chocolate. This version is from 2010 and is only 7.5% ABV.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Moderate aromas all around, with caramel and dark bread for the malt, herbs for the hops, earth for the yeast, with toffee, wood, dark dried fruit and faint spice and port in the background. Head is small, creamy, off-white with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear dark mahogany. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic then finishes lightly acidic, moderately bitter and a bit sour. Palate is medium, watery and has a soft carbonation. A pretty good American Strong Ale that gets so much better as it warms.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is citrus hops and caramel. Appearance is dark brown with a tint of orange. Small head that lingers and laces well. Taste is pineapple, grapefruit hops forward with sweet dark maltyness following. Caramel. Hops and malt well balanced. Wheat present. Palate is medium+. Hops flavor lingers. Not overly bitter but plenty of hops flavor. Spicy hops linger on the palate like I havent tasted before. Overall, an intereting beer. Hides its alcohol very well. I like the maltiness of this beer but it is almost garbled or not coming together. I really like what they have done with the hops in this beer though, very unique. I think this could be a great beer with a little tweaking..... but IMO something is a little off.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown with a thick tna head and a toffee aroma. There is a complex nutty dark malt flavor that reflects characteristics of the various grains used. Theextensive hopping produces a dry bitter finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A: The pour is a clear, dark amber color with a small off-white head, leaving some mild lacing.
S: A lot of sweet caramel malt along with some brown sugar. A mild citrus aroma helps to cut through the sweetness.
T: Despite a very sugary nose, the sweetness was fairly restrained. The caramel and brown sugar come through, but so do some nice citrus and fruit flavors. The hops don’t really provide any bitterness here, which I could have used a touch of.
M: The body is medium to full with a moderate level of carbonation.
D: A touch more bitterness and this one would have been a lot better. It was still good as it is, but seemed to be missing something.

Bottle, poured a dark auburn with a tan head. Aroma of garden-earth, fruit and vegetables. Flavor as quite different from the aroma, except for a vegetable element. Caramel, vanilla, bread and cocoa. Slightly sweet. Not a fan of the aroma.
