Our darkest ale is brewed in the famous Irish Dry Stout style. We use dark roasted malts and imported English East Kent Golding hops. Served at our pub with nitrogen for a truly classic presentation. A bronze medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival.

On tap at the brew pub. One finger of tan head on a black body. The smell is all roasted malt. One sided but good. The taste is roasted malt with a mild bitterness. The texture is crisp with low carbonation and medium body. A little disappointing mild flavor and lighter body for a stout. Drinks more like a dark ale than a stout.

Nice enough stout, nothing unusual though. Very frothy and creamy head, fortunately served in a 20oz glass so there was room for it. On tap at the Rubicon brewpub.

"a decent example of the style. i thought they served it on nitro, but this one was not. i think it would have been flavorful enough to hold up. Big roasted malt and some chocolate in both the nose and flavor. very dry finish. only a very slight vegetal off note prevents it from a higher score."

The aroma is slight but malt is noted. A velvety black pour with thick and lasting tan head providing ample lacing. The taste is overall bitter with notes of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Overall, while the taste is less than robust, it is enjoyable and easy to drink.

Tap. Pours black with a medium, frothy tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, and roast malt with dark fruity esters and earthy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with medium hops and bitterness, dark fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

On tap at Rubicon for cask night! (From notes) This is a Co2 beer. Aroma is of coffee and roasted notes. Nice dark colour with a great head and lacing. FLavour is surprisingly hoppy! Also has chocolate flavours. This is a very good stout. Definitely west coast or cali style! Palate is a little thin.

On tap at the brewpub. It pours dark brown with a tan head. I can see a little light through this one. The aroma is pretty standard with some coffee and cocoa, roasted malt, hint of black licorice. The flavor was the same, although a bit muted. Also, the body was very thin, even for a nitro stout. Roasted malt was very weak. Nothing really wrong with this brew, just a bit substandard if you ask me. I’d stick to their lighter colored beers which are very good.

Pint on tap at the brewpub. The aroma is mostly sweet with sugary chocolate notes. There also is some roastiness present in the background. Smells good. Moderately transparent dark mahogany body with a fine, nitrogenated light tan head. A little too transparent for my liking. Starts somewhat metallic with scant, sweet choco malts. This then becomes very roasted, burnt, and even ashy with some patent malts. Some anise is also present. Finishes bitter and metallic.

Sample at the brewpub on 8/7/10. Black pour with a thick tan nitro head. Malty aroma with a bit of chocolate and roast. Light in the flavor, but nicely roasty and bitter. A bit of chocolate in there too. Could use a bit more body and it’s roasty almost to the point of ashy, but not bad.
