Cask at The Windmill, Swindon. Served way too cold so aroma was killed off. It was in decent condition otherwise, moderate malt and earthy bitterness. I didn’t really enjoy it despite the decent hop content.

Cask at the Robin Hood, Sherwood, Nottingham. I generally avoid Greene King beers, because of their takeover and subsequent closure of Hardys & Hansons, but this was the best choice at the pub. I never had it in the old Rutland-brewed days, but this version is pretty good. The amber brown colour suggests the richness of the palate. The aroma is malty, and the flavour has a nice, rich fruity malt base with bitter dry hops on the finish.

Amber with a small creamy head. Weak aroma, caramel and malty, with a touch of grassy hops. Quite bitter with some malt sweetness for balance.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2008 Cask at The Malt Shovel, Edinburgh. Red/brown color with a beige head. Aroma: Woody, grassy/herbal, grapefruit, light sweet frutiness. Flavor: Citrus, wood, spices, pine raisin, grass/herbs. Not that sweet. Buttery and dry mouthfeel.

Cask (Tasted in London). Amber colour with a little head. Fruity nose, with hints of malt. Also flavour of fruit, malt and hints of sweetness.

Clear copper pour topped by a slowly fading off-white head. Not as aromatic as one would wish yet there is substance in there: a strong cookie-like malt base that borders toffee and a rather spicy, earthy and weirdly herbal hops. In mouth, the bitterness is engaging and refreshing at once, cutting through the malt’s sweetness and making it very drinkable. Tasty and I guess my favourite Greene King cask offering.

A nose of malts. The beer pours a deep copper colour. The taste is malty with hops. Quite balanced but this was too dry and savoury for me.

Cask. At The Devonshire Arms, Piccadilly, London Clear copper pour, decent creamy off-white head (sparkler?). Sweet caramel malt aroma, a pleasant surprise of a lot of funky UK hop medley, oily cereal grain in the finish. Smooth taste, a nice blend of moderately sweet cereal malt and restrained light alpha hops - for some reason my notes say "cherry" - I think I detected some tart cherry sourness in the finish, but I was probably hallucinating - I’d just spent 2-3 hours walking around Hampstead Heath. Decent body, nice oily bitterness over the dry malt - solid pint.

on tap in Exeter. Low carbonation, creamy head. Malty, only slightly hoppy and fruity.

Copper color and clear. A thin creamy head. Heavy malt aroma. Creamy taste, with a heavy body and light hop bite.
