Lovely, lovely pale ale, with just the right combination of aromatic hops and malt. Not too bitter, goes down smoothly indeed. One of my all-time favorites.

It took me three years to find a worthy challenger to Ushers Tawny, but here it is : a copper-coloured bitter ale with hints of fruits and a big maltiness !

On tap at the Commercial Inn, Dunfermline. Orangey with thin head. Hints of yeastiness in the nose, sweet citric aroma. Fruity and yeasty palate with rounded bitterness in the end. Very Belgian.

Cask at Churchkey. Sparkler used. Reminds me of the days I lived almost in the shadow of the brewery, in Barton Mills, not far from Bury. Clear golden color, thick white head (that’s the sparkler at work). Aroma of lemon peel and citrus. Sweet start, followed by a soft bitterness with a bit of lemon peel. Very pleasant stuff, a perfect session beer.

I enjoyed 3 of these at Memphis Taproom (my favorite bar) during Philly Beer Week. As far as I’m concerned you simply cannot beat the English when it comes to Bitter or Pale ale in cask! Although this may not be the best of the best, it still blows away most American Cask Pale Ales. I know it’s not high ABV or a Hop-bomb that will make ones face implode, and barely carbonated, but that’s the point: It’s an English Style REAL Cask Ale. It was enjoyable on it’s own, but I’d rank it even higher if I could assign Style Points

Tasted it cask-conditioned, but i believe it had lost a bit during transportation - it appeared nicely balanced though.

Small coarseish offwhite head. Clear deep brownish body. Dusty caramelly nutty aroma with syrupy wooden notes. Dry-sweet dusty wooden caramelly taste with nutty earthy notes. Mild, smooth mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dry-sweet, almost bitter, dusty caramelly wooden aftertaste with oily strawy toffee notes. Lovely! Drinkable, harmonic, and subtle. (0.5l cask at Bishops Arms, Copenhagen.)

Cask Conditioned, Bishop’s Arms, Malmö
Clean amber color. Grassy hop aroma, metallic. Round and soft mouthfeel, with malt flavor, some toffee, strong bitterness, a bit buttery. Good final, with toffee too, fresh Bitter.
