DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Sep 6, 2008 02-Sep-08 (500-ml can: $1.99 at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) This pleasing English ale pours a pretty, half-inch of creamy, off-white head capping a clear, amber body. Small, slowly moving carbonation bubbles rise in several stream through the beer. The beer smells nutty and malty with minimal hop presence, not especially aromatic, but soothing and inviting. On the palate, toasty malt, nuts, and a touch of butteriness offer smooth, relaxing flavors while hops and bitterness are minimal. Light-medium in body with moderate but soft carbonation for some really easy drinking here. Overall, a classic English ale, smooth and sessionable. Stew41 (883), Caulfield, Australia Sep 6, 2008 Usually one of the more consistent classic UK bitters to hit Australian shores. Very much at the bitter end of the spectrum, rather than the more typical estery / fruit profile. Quite serious actually. Quite dry and midweight but the bitter kick on the finish leaves a lasting impression. A touch of stink on both the nose and palate; perhaps a slightly didgy bottle.
