Very dark red ruby in colour, no head. Not much aroma, just a slight sweetness, but its more sweet in taste with the smallest of roasted malts too.

Pours redish brown with a thin head. Aroma of caramel with toasted nuts perhaps and may be a touch of toastiness. Flavour is a rich and welcoming mix of maltiness with a nicely balanced bitter finish

Pint at the Cross Keys in York. Dark red with a long lived creamy head. Pleasant, light mild aroma. Bitter, sweet, with hints of raisin. Far, not bad, not great. Grows on you though.

On tap @ the Haymarket Bar, Pours opaque black with ruby tints and a nice head. The nose is of liquorice and smoke. The taste is more of the same. The palate is medium bodied and textured with an elegant clean finish. Overall, great.

Well, it does what it says on the tin: it’s the same colour as ruby port with a cream coloured head and little evident carbonation. The aroma is of mellow caramel, dates and muscatele sultanas, rich dark malts and gentle aging. The flavour is gratifyingly rich and complex with rich plumminess and an almost church wine-like flavour. Carbonation comes to the fore bringing out the spices (cinnamon and mace) with its spiky but not prickly notes. This is a lip-smacking and generous ale.
