3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted this at the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in October 2013. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale tawny in colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malty and sweet with toffee notes present. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Pale malt base gives a digestive biscuit base with sweet caramel shortcake notes very much in evidence. Dry dusty hop resins give a sharp metallic aftertaste which jars with the malt component. Finish is malty and sweet with toffee still present. There is a pleasant alcoholic warming burr in the mouth and you know this is 5%. This is a decent ESB.
