3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black beer with a decent beige head. Aroma and taste are both mild chocolate and malt, and the flavour adds a whack of hop to. Quite light for a chocolate stout but very drinkable all the same.

Cask. Jet black with a good solid mid tan head. Nose is very much creamy chocolate. In the mouth, its a light creamy chocolate. Not too heavy in taste or texture. Pleasant, but Iíd enjoy a little more flavour on the chocolate.

From cask at Cellar Bar, Batley, with KL and LH 09.05.15. Black. Dense beige head and lacing. Fine aroma of chocolate and medium dark malt. Also a hint of liquorice, lingering on in aftertaste. Parhaps a bit waterish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the Goose, Bracknell. Deep mahogany with a loose beige head; bitter chocolate aroma; dry, with a pleasantly chocolately taste and a lactic body; and a reasonable amount of bitterness. Quite satisfying.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the Blue Glass, Bedford. Consumed in my ex-home with my ex-wife. Very dark brown, barely translucent. Milk chocolate, slightly yeasty aroma. Taste is sweet, chocolately and malty. Incredible finish: thick chocolate with a hoppy bitter twist. An amazing chocolate beer, and one by which many standards should be set.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival, day 2 on 3 May 2012. Dark brown, not black, with a ruby tinge. Some dry, powdery chocolate here but itís not particularly intense. Finishes distinctly dry. Not at all bad, and undeniably pleasantly drinkable, but, like many Rudgate beers, itís a bit too conservative and "safe" for my taste.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at Travelers Inn, Apperknowle - Jet black body, thick lacing beige head. Nose is dark chocolate, cocoa beans and a general amount of smokiness. Taste has a bitter chocolate feel to it, rather dry, with a lasting finish. Quite a moderate body, not as slick as would hoped, but nice nonetheless.
