Cask conditioned at York Beer Festival ’13. Black with cream head. Quite a chocolate note to this beer, bitter and dark, some huskiness, some baked grain notes. Lasting on the palate, pretty reasonable.

Pours a dark chocolate brown with soem ruby hints in the brightest light. Fizzy head dissipates quickly. Light roasted nose, with just a hint of chocolate. Nice roasted malt flavor, with hints of chocolate and toast. Medium mouthfeel. Holds flavor as it warms. A nice solid stout.

Medium beige head doesn’t last. Nearly opaque black body goes deep dark brown at edges. Roasty dusty chocolate aroma with toast notes. Dry-sweet roasty chocolatey earth taste with toast and toffee notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry roasty chocolatey honey aftertaste with earthy rye crisp bread notes. Lovely. Highly drinkable, full of flavour, and complex. Very harmonic, too. (0.5l bottle, from House of Trembling Madness, York.)

Cask conditioned handpump White Horse London 03/05/13. A dark dark ruby coloured beer with a whitish head. A sweet and nutty beer. Some roasty malt and a bitter aftertaste. Chocolate gives it some sweetness and makes it feel a little un stout like. Feels a bit powdery like this kind of beer can but it’s reasonably tasty.

Bottle, bought from Yorks’ Evil Eye Lounge. Pours dark brown. Taste and aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and a touch of coffee. Dry, and quite thin-bodied. We drank it with venison steaks - a really good match.

Cask @ Haymarket, Edinburgh [200312]
Very dark brown, ruby red edges on glass, thin tan head, good lacing
Aroma of soft roasted malts, hint of chocolate, bit of coffee
Taste as aroma, dark malts, soft roast, some mocha coffee, only hint of chocolate
Palate - Medium body, good mouthfeel. Finish has some soft bitter coffee.
Overall - Not getting much chocolate, still a fairly good stout. Best named just ’York Stout’
