COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The year was 1918, Captain Frank Ruhstaller, looking for some respite from the Prohibitionists threatening his life’s work, traveled by steam ship to East Africa. Many miles later our Captain found himself in a very exotic world he could never have imagined, exciting his every sense. Rumor has it that is was on an early morning walk that he encountered a small coffee roaster. The Captain took fondly to his fellow brewer and returned to Sacramento with several large burlap sacks of this old soul’s beans. To his dismay upon his return his brewery was closed courtesy of the 18th Amendment and his dream of a Kenyan bean meeting a California hop died. Until now! 210 Cases Produced Jason Griest Tim Jordan Jan-Erik Paino Eric Ryan

~Strong earthy woody aroma with coffee, cinnamon, and other complex spice aroma I cant explain. ~Pours a murky dark brownish amber color with quickly disappearing airy head. Seems to be carbonated incorrectly. ~Earthy woody flavor, light burnt characteristics with coffee. ~Medium bodied, high CO2, lingering earthy finish. ~This is an enjoyable beer. Interesting blend of spices. Just seems poorly executed for some reason.

I like it, but the coffee flavor overpowers everything else. The tangy, citrus hop flavor is an afterthought behind the flavor of the morning beverage. Not bad, but definitely made with the coffee enthusiast in mind.

Bottle. Rich amber beer with a dark cream head, Grapefruit and coffee aroma. Grapefruit and pine flavor with light coffee. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and pine linger with light malt and light coffee. Much less coffee impact than the other version.

Good aroma. 1/2" head. The coffee is a bit to overpowering. I would have liked to see the coffee being used in a porter or any stronger beer. Overall a good beer though. ---Crozier

Looks amazing. A finger and half of head on a hazy, medium straw colored body. The aroma is lots of roasted coffee beans and a touch of grain behind it. Lots of coffee. The taste is okay. Not bad, a little coffee with some maltiness. The coffee adds the bitter. The texture is great though. Super soft with low to moderate carbonation. Impressive. Not a beer to pass up.

Bottle with Dodgrblu. Aroma and flavor of roasted, earthy Kenyan coffee. If it wasn’t carbonated, I would’ve sworn it was Peets. Crazy beer doppelgänger here. Fair beer overall.

22 ounce bottle from Taylor's Market; smells and tastes like iced coffee. Good; looks like beer doesn't taste like it though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Corti Bros., Sacramento. Pours orange amber with an attractive beige head and a coffee aroma. There is a coffee and caramel malt flavor with a smooth hoppy finish Quite tasty.

Bomber from Corti Bros. Pours dark, hazy orange amber with a slight beige head. Aroma is distinctly coffee. Med body. Flavor is quite coffee. It’s a bit different, but it works pretty well. Finishing bitter, but I can’t put a hop to it.

Recommended by the bartender. Strong coffee smell, but overall not too heavy. Never had a coffee ale before, but it’s quite good. Glad to have a change from hops hops hops hops.
