Rush River Chocolate Oatmeal Stout

On tap at the GTMW. Copper with a thin tan head, doesn’t look much like a stout. Aroma of roasted malt, mild caramel and light sweet malt. Taste of mild chocolate, milk sugar, roasted dark malt and perhaps a hint of coffee. Seemed very thin and had a mild chalky finish.

On draught at the Blue Door in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear dark cola brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some lactose, oatmeal, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Taste is medium bodied, a little gritty at first with flavors of toasted dark malt, chocolate some floral hops and some powdered sugar. Finish is semi-sweet, a little metallic texture with a slight oatmeal/lactose aftertaste.

TAP: at The Blue Door in St. Paul, MN on 3.20.09. Brown pour, but not too heavy. Mild coffee and chocolate on the nose, same on taste, very low hop profile, but a little thin on the palate. Good beer, but just okay for a chocolate stout.
