On draught at the Blue Door in St Paul, MN. Pours a clear dark cola brown brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some lactose, oatmeal, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Taste is medium bodied, a little gritty at first with flavors of toasted dark malt, chocolate some floral hops and some powdered sugar. Finish is semi-sweet, a little metallic texture with a slight oatmeal/lactose aftertaste.

Tap at Grumpys Roseville. Black. Sweet aroma with lactose I think. Sweet and roasted malt. Some chocolate. Solid.

Black color with a tall head that falls fairly quickly. Sweet malt and chocolate aroma. Silky, milk chocolate flavor. Not a pronounced oatmeal taste, but definitely had an effect on the mouthfeel. Some roasted malt, but generally quite sweet without being cloying. Very nice.

12oz bottle, says 8%. Deep opaque brown-black, big luscious rusty beige head. Smooth chocolate aroma. A really well done beer, very sweet and sugary. Big vanilla chocolate tones. The alcohol is impressively hidden. Roasty, mossy, some oily sweetness. Somewhat hollow, watery finish. Overall pretty solid beer.

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2011 On tap at the GTMW 2011. Dark brown with ruby lowlights and a creamy tan topper. Aroma of dark roasted malts, chocolate, grains and mild vanilla. Taste of chocolate, oatmeal, yeast, light sugar, white chocolate, cocoa and roasted malt. Dry finish that’s a touch artificial.

08-16-09. 6-3-6-2-13. On tap at the GTMW. Copper with a thin tan head, doesn’t look much like a stout. Aroma of roasted malt, mild caramel and light sweet malt. Taste of mild chocolate, milk sugar, roasted dark malt and perhaps a hint of coffee. Seemed very thin and had a mild chalky finish.

12 ounce bottle pours a dark brown color with aromas of roasted malt, oats, cocoa, vanilla, and a hint of coffee. Flavors are much the same with a slightly boozy aftertaste, nice beer overall.

Works for me. Produces a sensible, diminuitive head; dark brown body with obvious carbonation. The carbonation is quite noticeable in the tasting, too, though it is soft enough to be overlooked until it burns off a bit more. Good chocolate flavors, relatively controlled sweetness, though I didn’t mind that at all (sometimes finding oatmeal stouts a bit off kilter for my tastes). Poured some onto a chocolate brownie and it totally worked for me! Bottle. Drank on St. Valentine’s Day.

12oz bottle from mattyb83, thanks Matt! Pours a black colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma has a big mix of dark cocoas and sweeter chocolates as well as a moderate roast and light coffee, smooth oats, a touch of vanilla, and a hint of bitterness to the cocoas. Flavor is similar. Lots of smooth oats with plenty of dark cocoas and sweeter chocolates up front before a touch of vanilla comes in. A moderate roast to balance the chocolates as well as a light coffee and touch of toasty grain. Finishes fairly dry with a really nice bittersweet chocolate, a light roast, and a touch of hop bitterness before leaving a lengthy aftertaste following a very smooth, medium body and a soft, moderately lively carbonation. Overall, a really enjoyable sweet stout. Lots of chocolates with a nice mix of bittersweet dark cocoas and sweeter, richer chocolates all balanced well with a solid vanilla and a nice mix of roasts, coffee, and a touch of hops. Great beer.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Tripplebrew. Served cellar temperature in an English pint. Black as a raven in color with fast diminishing, tan head. Mild lace. Nicely intense roasted malt and chocolate aroma’s. Nice flavors of Milk chocolate, vanilla and a light hop to balance the sweetness. Some lactose sugar. Mouthfeel is creamy. Body is a tad lacking, ABV is only lightly noticeable. Overall a well-executed sweet stout. Not overly sweet.

Bottle - Pours black with a creamy tan head. Nose is chocolatey and milky with a smooth oatmeal graininess. Lightly sweet. Taste brings the chocolate and medium roasted dark malt, lightly chalky with some milkiness and a long bitter finish. Smooth and silky body with medium heft. Good stuff.
