COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is black in color with an ample amount of oats to give it a smooth finish. This ale has a very complex grain bill and packs a punch with an ABV of 8.5%. All natural cocoa is also added to make this stout a fantastic experience.

Tried this beer at the Casanova Beer Cave Festival (2011), this was my favorite beer of the festival, great roast taste.

12 oz. bottle. Creamy, dessert-sweet aroma features chocolate (especially chocolate mousse) and lemon scents. Pours a dark brown with a moderate to large amount of thick, taupe head. Produces good lacing. Flavor is tart, tarry, and bitter at first. Coffee beans. Lemon sourness. Alcohol noticeable in the finish. The taste is not nearly as sweet as the aroma suggests. Milk chocolate or carob emerges upon multiple sips. The taste is that of an artificial chocolate, like a Tootsie Roll. Light bodied and soft in the palate. Rush River Chocolate Oatmeal Stout (that’s how it’s labeled, by the way; no “Nevermore” to be seen on the bottle) is surprisingly interesting, but it is merely interesting and not particularly good.

Bottle. Dark black pour, a little lasting gray head and an aroma of milk sugar and a little chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, some sweet sugar and chocolate with a very thin body. Decent beer, wished it was a little more hearty.

Tap at Old Capital Tavern. Pours almost black with tan head. Taste is bitter coffee and earthy malts with some chocolate. Nice creamy beer.

Dissapointing....thin body for an oatmeal stout. Smells and tastes like ovaltine. Milk chocolate does n

Charcoal black with tanned marshmallow, yellow tinted tan foam. Early aroma mostly frozen raspberries. Warmth brings the richer layers of graham cracker crust and cocoa, but the icy, hollow fruit sweetness remains prevalent. There’s a trebly, tangy sensation to these fruit suggestions, of black cherry, blood orange, mixed berry, lacking depth. Later on a little singe of alcohol.

Flavor is composed, but somewhat tepid; quiet chocolate and black cherry fruit, very low char or tannin, no seductive factor here. Instant coffee bitterness nearing the end. Creamy body, soft carbonation, decievingly lightweight. Mouth coating caramelized sugar and cocoa after swallowing. As a hint of rotting banana starts to color the aroma, the blend of sensations proves to be poorly integrated.

Thirsty Troll Brew Fest. Pour is deep brown/black with a khaki head. Aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate, roasted oats, and a touch of coffee. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of vanilla and earth. Overall body is moderate to full and finishes with a nice roasted bitterness.

(bottle) Pours jet black with a large tan head that quickly settles to a medium cap and adequate lacing. Aroma of chocolate, a lot of roasted barley, faint smoke, and some tartness which is regrettable. Caramel corn. Taste is strong of roasted malt, chocolate, slightly burnt chocolate chip cookie, and maybe a hint of dark roasted coffee. High ABV is nowhere to be found. The mouthfeel of this beer is really the standout feature. Very smooth, silky, and full with a nice even roast displayed in the finish. Overall this is a solid stout, and the mouthfeel really makes up for the detrimental aroma.

I’ve been hoping for so much more from this brewery... But they have yet to release anything that really wows me. This is not an exception, sadly.
