This is our own version of the classic hefeweizen style with a Midwest twist. Brewed with white wheat from Wisconsin, this blonde ale is lively and fresh. We engineered this wheat ale to appeal to those favoring a lighter beer. Our wheat ale is purposefully cloudy in the glass and mild on the palate.

Extremely average. Which is unusual for Rush River. Itís caught in stylistic limbo and just like the limbo, it isnít very satisfying and falls flat often. Light golden color with white head. Some banana and clove aroma. Just mediocre all around.

About as average a s a beer can get. Not that its bad, just very ordinary.

Pours slightly cloudy yellow, white head. Aroma has notes of banana, clove, touch of fruit. Taste is very light, some sweet fruit and banana, slight yeast, finishing sweet and light in flavor. Overall, not good and weak.

Tap. Opaque orange. Wheat is first on the nose. Also yeast, honey, hops. Taste is wheat, some malts and some hops. Nice crisp finish. Good and clean and drinkable, but sort of bland.

Looking over the huge list of options I settled on a regional beer that is not likely to make it to Ohio any time soon. I did not realize they were trying to make a hefeweizen or my attitude may have been different. This is a basic daily drinker with nothing to set it apart. Chances are slim that I will be actively seeking out Rush River beers in the future except when they happen to be the best thing on a limited menu.

Aroma / Appearance - Carbonated and hazy gold the body bubbles lazily. A nice white head floated on top like a layer of frosting. Hoppy but light the nose does not make me think much of a hefeweizen. Bland and dull it feels muted.

Flavor / Palate - Caramel dripped onto honey wheat toast gave a moist impression. Next came shades of a hefeweizen. Finally the light hoppy finish did its best to leave a mark but was otherwise forgettable. Even if this was supposed to be a golden ale it was kind of boring and flat.

12oz bottle.
Pours a faintly cloudy, very pale straw-yellow. Lots of big bubbles stream from the bottom to the top but still canít keep a decent head. Aroma is bready grain and damp horse blanket. Flavor shows modest but crisp hop bitterness, grassy notes, a fair dose of clean malt, and some pleasant juicy fruit. Light-to-medium body with a palate thatís lively and tingly almost like soda.

Donít get me wrong, this is a perfectly serviceable, easy-drinking summer beer, and I enjoyed it more than my 2.8 score would indicate... but itís a pretty lousy example of a hefeweizen.

Aroma starts with a hay/grassy, dough overtones with a slightly sweet floral undertone and a slighly resin quailty. Color is a yellow-golden color and slightly hazy with a weak white head disipating quickly. The taste is medium bitter-sweet with some light sour notes intermingled. Overall the body is light-medium with some fizzy carbination.

This seemed more like a blonde ale than a hefeweizen to me. Grainy flavor, minimal head. Better than some and good enough to give to the inlaws on Thanksgiving.

Draft sample at Black Sheep Pizza. Gold in colour with minimal haze and medium carbonation. Aromas are of white toast and lemon curd. Flavors are of mild bramble fruit esters (like those produced from British ale strains, weird I know), more lemon, bubblegum, and sweetish pale malts. Drying on the finish. Doesnít really resemble a German Hefeweiss (whereís the banana, clove and vanilla?), but somewhat succeeds as a plain old golden ale.

TAP: cloudy gold hefe, wheat on the nose. Just some hop/edge on taste, this is missing most of the good hefe character. Not great.
