2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Yukonbrew (11) - Yukon, CANADA - FEB 2, 2013
Not a lot going on with this beer, an enjoyable ale but nothing special as the price would suggest. Slight chocolate and a lingering mouldy orange flavour profile was disapointing and a bit confusing.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 andrewturba (456) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 26, 2012
Pours a clear brown with small whitish head quickly dissolving into a tiny ring. Aromas are smokey, roasted, earthy, caramel. Flavours consist of roasted malt, smoke, caramel, nutty with mild bitterness.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Reimer96 (589) - Alberta, CANADA - DEC 26, 2012
Pours a clear dark ruby red with an off white ring. Aroma of caramel, smoke, light peat & salt. Taste is caramel, smoke and a slight bitterness on the finish. Body isn’t as full as you’d expect for the color and aroma.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Savvy1982 (1705) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 8, 2012
Bottle at RBAG, from my commemorative RBAG glass. Pours clear brown, with a thin off-white head, and spotty lacing. Nose is smoky caramel, salt, honey. I’m getting a bit tired of these big, sweet beers. Scotch Ales, Barleywines, Old Ales, American Strongs etc. They just start to run into one another, and become much the same beer. Flavours of soft caramel, smoke, honey, sweet malt, fudge. A decent enough brew, but really not my thing anymore.

Darn good brew. Purely opaque dark brown with a thick creamy beige head. The nose is well malted and moderately roasted with light peat and Smokey scotch notes. Very drinkable and full Bodied. Overall an easy to drink and tasty peaty roasted malts.
3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Wanja (322) - Bavaria, GERMANY - AUG 28, 2012
Nice dark cloudy color, but very small and short head. Interesting malty taste, everyone should try it.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 gramity (1054) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 23, 2012
RBAG Summer Session 2012. Pours a very deep orange-amber with a small diminishing creamy tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, light smoke, nuts and some chocolate. Slightly watery flavour of toasted caramel malt, smoke and light hops in the dry finish. Average to medium bodied.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 22, 2012
Single bottle purchased from a BC Liqour Store in Vernon, BC on 03/11/2011. Colour: Dark brown with hints of orange. Minimal head. Nose: Pureed tomato, flank steak, malt vinegar. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium-light bitter, medium sour. More meaty stuff....like something mysterious that was boiled in a pot for hours then covered in tomato sauce. Malted barely comes through with a bit of sweet saviour but then long lingering leather and roughness on the finish. Certainly not one of the best Russell’s i’ve tasted.

Tap @ Malone’s. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are caramel, nuts, dried fruits, malt and hops.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 WheatKing (703) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 4, 2012
I really enjoyed this one... I think it’s the ashy mouthfeel that does it for me. Or maybe because Scotch ales are all too often cloying, and this one struck the perfect balance for my taste. I have a love affair with nuts too and this one of course reminded me of that (don’t tell my SO). Kept it at the back of my fridge way too long.
