A wee angry scotch ale is part of the Russell Brewmaster Series: a succession of small batch beers that push taste boundaries and explore new styles of beers. This beer has been brewed with a blend of Scottish specialty malts in the style of a 19th century 90 Shilling Scotch Ale - a strong, dark ale with a dominant malt accent that originated in Edinburgh. This batch of beer was brewed by Jack Bensley, Eric Dubuc and Anders McKinnon, Russell Brewing Company 2010.

Aroma is bitter malts, caramel and toffee. Taste is sweet malts which are ?weet with caramel, toffee, molasses and roasty malts. Some basic bitterness on finish. Appearance is a clear dark amber /copper with a thin beige head that retains poorly.

Drinking from a 750 ml bottle. Malt in the aroma. The clear red beer had a small white head that disappears fast. Oak, Scotch, chocolate in the taste. Medium carbonated.

Pours good and dark with tan head but that falls away. Neutral aroma. Good chocolate and coffee flavours following through

Rating #1010 - March 1st, 2014 - On a #blinddate at Beer Revolution. Should never take skanks to a beer bar I like. Light brown amber pour with a bubbly tan foam with little retention. Aroma is roasted malts, toffee, vanilla, oak, honey. Taste is quite sweet at first, prolonged oaky vanilla, light tobacco, toffee sweetness and the presence of oak in the body. I enjoyed this beer more as it started to warm. Very nice medium-full body, mild alcohol note on the palate which is typical for the style, and lots of rich sweetness.

Ambré sombre avec un petit col beige. L’arôme du malt avec un peu de tourbe. Le goût est pareil avec un peu de sucre. C’est un peu mince pour le style.

Really decent, flavorful scotch ale. Looks like a Newcastle Brown Ale. Aroma is slightly sour, very malty, lots of toast. Good flavor - nutty, some brown sugar, heavy malt, with a little bit of sweetness reminiscent of something like Gulden Draak (though nearly as sweet). Palate is great - low carbonation, nice and smooth. Worth trying.

On tap. Pours a reddish brown with medium head. Aromas of spice cake, biscuits, and roasted malts. Flavours of burnt malts, light liquorice, and dried dark fruit. Dry.

Pours dark ruby reddish brown with nice off white head. Sweetish aroma, maybe vanilla and caramel. There are hints of sweetness and it is nicely balanced, but fall a little short in the finish. Very easy drinking Scotch Ale.

A wee bit more colour, but very nice on the palate. Definitely going in my beer fridge. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Pours dark brown with minimal head. Strong malt odor and taste, darker than I thought it would be and close to a porter. Heavy mouthfeel, smooth. Pleasant but a bit heavier than I imagined would have again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
