A wee angry scotch ale is part of the Russell Brewmaster Series: a succession of small batch beers that push taste boundaries and explore new styles of beers. This beer has been brewed with a blend of Scottish specialty malts in the style of a 19th century 90 Shilling Scotch Ale - a strong, dark ale with a dominant malt accent that originated in Edinburgh. This batch of beer was brewed by Jack Bensley, Eric Dubuc and Anders McKinnon, Russell Brewing Company 2010.

A wee bit more colour, but very nice on the palate. Definitely going in my beer fridge. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Pours dark brown with minimal head. Strong malt odor and taste, darker than I thought it would be and close to a porter. Heavy mouthfeel, smooth. Pleasant but a bit heavier than I imagined would have again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sample at Picaroon's Brewer's Bash. Dark brown colour. Vanilla, scotch, smoke aromas. Taste is vanilla, brown sugar, scotch and some smoke, but it wasn't very full. Good start, but could have gone further. Good if you like a less intense scotch ale, I guess. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A decent scotch ale. Pours a beautiful deep red with a thick white head. Smells like vanilla, full aroma, Taste is pretty malty, about a little bit boring. Little bit of vanilla, but tastes slightly watered down. Had on tap at Whet in Vancouver. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown/ruby red pour with small off white head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and hint of smoke. Taste of roasted malt, slight caramel, hint of peat, slight nuttiness and faint hop on the finish. Medium carbonation, light bodied. Nothing really memorable about this one.

On tap at sunset. Clear ruby. Aost no cap. Aroma of bread, nuts, roasted malt, brown sugar. Taste is the same.

Not a lot going on with this beer, an enjoyable ale but nothing special as the price would suggest. Slight chocolate and a lingering mouldy orange flavour profile was disapointing and a bit confusing.

Pours a clear brown with small whitish head quickly dissolving into a tiny ring. Aromas are smokey, roasted, earthy, caramel. Flavours consist of roasted malt, smoke, caramel, nutty with mild bitterness.

Pours a clear dark ruby red with an off white ring. Aroma of caramel, smoke, light peat & salt. Taste is caramel, smoke and a slight bitterness on the finish. Body isnt as full as youd expect for the color and aroma.

Bottle at RBAG, from my commemorative RBAG glass. Pours clear brown, with a thin off-white head, and spotty lacing. Nose is smoky caramel, salt, honey. Im getting a bit tired of these big, sweet beers. Scotch Ales, Barleywines, Old Ales, American Strongs etc. They just start to run into one another, and become much the same beer. Flavours of soft caramel, smoke, honey, sweet malt, fudge. A decent enough brew, but really not my thing anymore.
