Delicious and satisfying contender to Hoyne’s Dark Matter. Aroma is akin to a Russian Imperial Stout - burnt and slightly bittered with lots of roasted malt. Appearance is again similar to a RIS...small brownish head, beautiful black colour. Satisfying and rich flavor of roasted malt, black licorice, and a slight hop bite. Tastes "cold" and and a bit harsh if that makes sense, but once sipped it is a warming brew. Leaves a lingering licorice-esque bitterness that is exceedingly pleasant. Wonderful brew, would almost take it over Dark Matter.

On tap at Barley Brothers. Dark brown pour with an off-white head. Malty, lightly roasty aroma with chocolate and a touch of fruit. Flavour is somewhat bitter roasty malt, some chocolate and cocoa, a touch of dark fruit. A bit light and not perfectly balanced, but a passable craft porter.

Pours dark, no light gets through this beer. Not much head, or lacing. Taste is bitter coffee and roasted malts with dark fruit but it’s too sweet. Thinner than it should be. It’s not horrible, but nothing to go out of my way for.

650 ml bottle. Pours an opaque black with a small light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and a hint of nuts. Flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla and nuts with a dry, bitter, ashy finish. Medium body with a watery texture and soft carbonation.

Noir avec un petit col marron. L’arôme du malt torréfié, du chocolat et du anise. Le goût est du malt avec un peu du chocolat et une finition légèrement amer.

Pours a dark brown with a red hue and a small brown head that leaves little lace. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, dark dried fruits, latte and a bit of anise. Taste is roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee and a nice bitter anise on the finish. Mouthfeel ha a medium carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel... Nice full bodied and easy drinking.

I thought this was alright. Aromas of coffee and anise. Similar flavor profile. The downside is the thin and somewhat watery palate.

On tap at Barley Brothers, Winnipeg. Dark body, obviously, brown head. Quite a roast aroma, dark chocolate, coffee, but not too intense. I thought it was a bit thinner than I’d like and the flavour was not as intense as the aroma. Still a nice porter.
