Blood Alley Bitter is an Extra Special Bitter named after a notorious cobblestone laneway in Vancouver’s Gastown district. At 50 ibu this beer is slightly higher in bitterness than the average ESB but it is well balanced by the rich roasted malt flavours

Rating #907 - January 13, 2014 - Taster flight at Craft Beer Market, 4 oz sample.. Pours a dark amber with a foamy off-white head that dissipates slowly, medium-strong retention. Aroma is mild toasted malt, hints of wildflowers. Hop presence is significant, giving the bitter character, but the breadiness of the malt is what makes this beer. Creamy mouthfeel Well balanced, medium bodied ale that is easy to drink.

Esb in name but tastes like a pale ale. It’s floral and hoppy with moderate bitterness. Pretty good but not toasty or nutty like an esb usually is.

A very slight bitterness to it....it is a 50 IBU. Not overly strong, I do like a strong bitter but this allows for a bitter taste if you want to have multiple beverages in an evening.

Pours amber color. Weak head. Smells floral, citrus and cedar. Taste is flowery, grass and malt. Very average for the style ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle (650 ml). From FondueVoodoo, thanks! Clear bright golden/orange with a medium persistent off-white head and some lacing. Aroma is of caramel, earthy notes, light citrus and light hops. Taste is mild with caramel, earthy notes, light citrus and light bitterness. Light/medium body. Moderate carbonation. Super drinkable and and refreshing. Very good bottled bitter.

Really nice beer. Pours clear dark amber with an initial agressive foamy head and medium to big lacing. Nose is light earthy bitterness. Notes of light caramel, some breakfast tea, light fruity notes and a medium earthy bitterness to the finish. Tastes are light sweet light bitter, well balanced. Medium to full body with lively carbonation. Really great session bitter!

Pours a clear light amber color with a small head. Aroma of fresh grass, caramel, earth but overall way too much hop aroma. Taste is caramel, grassy hops, earthy hops and slight cereal. Overall way too hoppy for an esb and not enough of a malt profile to balance it out. Since I like the brew overall and they state that’s their intention I gave it a good overall really enjoyable beer just not a great esb.

Sample at Picaroon's Brewer's Bash. I rather enjoyed this one. Colour is oddly red for an ESB. Taste is some caramel and biscuit malts with a nice rush of bitter hops in the finish. Just what I was looking for in a Canadian ESB. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Rudy’s. Clear copper colour. Thick creamy head that slowly recedes to a thin layer that lasts with nice lacing. Strong hops aroma with a bit of malt. Nice mouth feel that is crisp with soft carbonation. Lasting bitter finish.
