COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Blood Alley Bitter is an Extra Special Bitter named after a notorious cobblestone laneway in Vancouver’s Gastown district. At 50 ibu this beer is slightly higher in bitterness than the average ESB but it is well balanced by the rich roasted malt flavours

On tap @ sugarbowl. Clear, light amber (coul be darker) with a generous thick, white cap & lots of lacing. Peachy aroma with lesser citrus notes of rrgf and orange, solid caramel and maybe a hint of earth. Solid malt flavour with the smooth, soft caramel holding strong and a light earthy background. Plenty of bitterness that fades into strong citrus notes of lemon, peach, hints of gf and a bit of a pepper bite. Good carbonation and nice and smooth with a welcome zip and a pleasant long medium bitterness. Get it before it’s gone!

pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma of light bitter hops, light toasted caramel and biscuit. Flavour of quite bittering and intense English hops balanced by lightly toasted English malts. Not overly thrilling though decent.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2012 Nice reddish brown colour with a faint but pleasant hoppy aroma. Taste is initially somewhat malty but there’s a nice bitter presence here as well. Nice beer.

65 cl bottle, Winnipeg, MB, Canaa. Hazy brown greyish appearance. Zero head. Citrus and coriander aroma with some celery. Caramel flavour, overly carbonated, some lime on the finish.

Bottled sample. Copper in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of woody and mildly citric hops, caramel malt, and a bit of toast. The toasted nut and biscuit elements of the malt come through stronger in the mouth, while the woody hops continue to play a fair role. Fairly bitter with a snappy finish. A bit muted overall. Not a bad pale ale, but calling it an ESB conjures up a beer with more fruity English yeast notes which just aren’t present here.

Sampled at Darby’s Liquor Store. Aroma and flavour were that of a standard bitter - English malts and hops, mushrooms. Quite bitter and biscuity. Not a lot of complexity, unsurprisingly... But drinkable.

Orange pour, white head. Earthy, floral nose. Sweet, bready malts, earthy hops, mildly bitter finish with floral and herbal notes. Very good, classic tasting ESB.
