COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hop Therapy Double IPA is the newest single-batch brew in the Russell Brewmaster Series. As a beer style, a Double IPA is designed to showcase the hops. We’ve used a massive amount of 100% American hops including: Amarillo, Cascade and Columbus. For this batch we had six hop additions in the brew kettle and two rounds of dry hopping to finish. At 100 IBU’s this beer is dry, strong and bitter. We hope you enjoy its clean bitterness, refreshing aroma and big hop flavour.

Pours with almost no head, dark gold body. Definitely strong hops on the nose, sweet and bitter, though not layered or hinting at complexity. Flavour is a swell mix with sweetness and some meaty maltiness, chewy herbs. Vague hint of alcohol on the back end. It’s highly drinkable for sure, but in this style I’d expect a lot more.

Bottle - Smells of nice mellow grapefruit/pine with some wonderful balanced sweetness from the malts. Dark clear amber with a rich medium head. Very smooth and rich, with a candy like sweetness robust bitterness and long sweet finish. Piney but very well balanced. This is a great example of a IIPA, maybe not too extravagant and exciting but good. Well done Russell.

Pours a hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is passionfruit, orange juice, grapefruit, guava, ginseng. Medium-light body, slightly syrupy mouthfeel, reasonably well balanced on the palate with a citrusy hop bitterness on the aftertaste. Taste is passionfruit, caramel, grapefruit and guava.

Murky orange, fluffy white head.Citrus hop nose. Oddly, this is bitter from start to finish, citrus & malt hints.Taste and nose don’t seem to mesh

Lagerboy (705) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 25, 2013
Opaque orange brown, off white head fades quickly. Strong aroma of pine needles with some fruitiness. Big bitter sappy spruce hop taste, grapefruit and citrus, backed by some faint caramel malts. Softly carbed, medium-full bodied, aggressively hopped. Fresh, floral and earthy, alcohol is well hidden. Dry hoppy finish. DNFL (Definately Not For Lagerboys)

Well done, Russell! A nice, floral, dry, resinous beer. No point in giving the same notes as others have put up for this brew. I'll just add that Russell is easily one of the best Vancouver area breweries that rock the shit out of dry, bitter beers. This is no exception. Thanks!

Pours a murky orange-brown with a decent off white head. Aroma is pungent piney hops, some citrus. Flavour is complex hops with a very dominant coniferous, Christmas tree spruciness. There are orangey tropical hops there as well, some caramel malt. Finishes very bitter but balanced, resinous mouthfeel. Quite certain this is the best beer I’ve ever had from this brewer. More like this one please.

Bottle from Legacy, Vancouver
Hazy orange-amber color with small creamy head. Nice aroma, the hops have a earthy and animal character. Good body strength, just a bit less than beers at similar strength; good toffee flavor, some caramel, light residual sweetness; excellent hopping, with powerful resins and good fruity presence, some apricots, bitter oranges, and light cedar in the end.
Excellent and fresh.

650 ml bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy copper color with very little head. Strong pine and grapefruit aroma with a little dusty malts. Pretty much a PNW hops bomb, citrus, pineapple, and pine flavors, though there is enough malt there to provide some balance. Nicely covers the alcohol.
