4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 CapFlu (4021) - Victoria, British Columbia, - APR 18, 2012(650 ml bottle) Purchased at Steamworks off sale in Vancouver for a ridicu-fcking-less. Amazing fresh cedar aroma, cobwebs and closet. Wildly different, young spicy and frantically cathartic. I really really like this!

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Papsoe (25129) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - FEB 24, 2013
Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Cloudy opaque amber with a small off-white head. Odd perfumy nose, combined with some caramel. Medium body, lots of caramel, again these perfumy notes, sweet Bourbon accents – Sorachi Ace? Quite a harsh booziness and a rough bitterness. 230213

22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy amber to orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, wheaty, light yeasty and citrusy hops. Fruity, toasted malty, light caramelish, bitter and slight citric. Herbal, bitter and phenolic. Caramelish, bitter, light bourbon vanilla and phenolic finish.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 fiulijn (12360) - Malmö, DENMARK - FEB 23, 2013
Bottle from Legacy Liquor Store, Vancouver Cloudy amber color with creamy head. Nice aroma, a lot of Bourbon whiskey, elegant and harmonious. Good body structure; some malt and caramel flavor, the wheat flavor is present but less than in other Wheat wines; unfortunately there is also a light sourness, and a hint of vegetables (probably the fermentation process); correct bitterness, with a light earthy final. Not impressed.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 sulawang (418) - British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 2, 2012
pours slightly opaque brown with a very small head, small CO2, lots of medium fast streams. Sweet malts and hints of whiskey on the nose. Bold aggressive 9/10-sweet heavy caramel malts up front, alcohol detection + whiskey, hints of chocolate, resiny wood, and a heavy alcoholic med-heavy malty bitter finish. Body is on the thinnish side for a high ABV beer. Medium complexity, med-high depth, okay transitions, good carry, okay drinkability. Doesn’t quite have the creaminess of fullness to carry the alcohol.
3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Gerbeer (890) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 11, 2012
650 ml bottle. Pours a murky brown with very light head. Aroma of paint, oak, and sour malts. Definite wood/oak/whiskey flavor with medium malts and hints of citrus. Definitely not a barley wine but interesting.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Strykzone (3866) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - AUG 8, 2012
Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. Opaque brown with a smallish light head. This smells like a woody wheat wine with Whiskey in it. Whiskey is tasted more than anything. That and the barrel flavors such as vanilla.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 riversideAK (5458) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - JUL 15, 2012
Nose pf whiskey wood light wheat and chalk. Holy shit this is boozy. Basement notes as well. Not my favorite nose. Poura hazy amber orange witg a thin non lasting head and little lace. Flavors of whiskey up front very light wheat wood notes ligjt hop presence basement dust ans chalk. Spmewhat flabby carbonation and definitely too thin a body to handle the booze imo. Tough to drink for me.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 reebtogi (3377) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 3, 2012
650ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a small white head which leaves only a few spots of lacing. Aroma is whiskey and fruits with some mild hops. Taste is dominated by the whiskey which I find a little overpowering, with some fruit and malty sweetness and mild hoppy bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with light carbonation. An acceptable barley wine style ale, but could be much better.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 VerticalBaconStrips (1904) - Assat, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 3, 2012
Assuming this would be garbage I had low expectations. These low expectations just got A-bombed. I totally love this beer. My cat is keeping my balls warm so I can’t get up to turn the light on to see what the colour is but I know it’s cloudy with a thin head. The Tennessee finish is setting and dominant which is awesome and really gives this a defined nose of interest. Vanilla, wood, wheat, very sweet orange and citrus are the main players here along with lesser notes of apricot, dry leaves and something that makes me think of Belgium beer. There is a Cantilion-like thing happening here as well. I don’t think only eating a spinach salad is the best thing to consume when preparing for high % beer. For me it’s almost a soothing, mesmerizing aroma. The flavour is full and ready to tantalize. Very similar to the aroma. Actually it’s almost it’s twin. And I like it equally. Some alcohol and a short lived bitterness that gets nullified by vanilla. Some darker caramel, yoga, pickled salamander cheeks, Denver boots and visions from staring into flood lights while on acid. There are other things that happened during drinking this including the spicy bite throughout and something else but the % has settled in and I no longer care. This beer aint for every one but it’s for me and that’s all that matters. Great beer!
