Sampled on 8/2/06, comparison of Batch 001 and 001-PH1 bottles: Both pour a slightly hazy golden bronze with a thin coating of wispy white head. Aromas are very similar, bretty, funky, yeasty and complex, but the PH1 has more of a drier, earthier, and acetic character while the regular is a little sweeter and has some fruity light tartness. The Batch 001 starts with nice sweetness and lively carbonation, nicely balanced with good tartness and mild, bretty funk. Finishes semi-dry and lightly warming with good complexity. PH1 starts drier than the regular with a more viscous woody, oaky and Flemish sour tart cherry flavor. Very complex and more authentic than the regular Batch 001. Not really sure which one I prefer, but both are very tasty and unique.

Bottled (Thx. Sliffy for the trade). Orange coloured. Unclear. Dense off white head. Complex aroma of sourness, grape, spice, flowers, earth and vinegar. Has a subtle scent of the barral, that mingles quite well with the rest of the impressions. Flavour as well is very nice. Dry spiced grape and vinegar and earthnotes. Very complex and balanced. Full bodied and very very dry mouthfeel. This is the ideal palatecleanser, which we used it as while tasting some grand Impy stouts. I want more of this stuff.

Thanks to my friends Dan & Joelle (Dewbrewer) for sharing this. Batch 001. 375 ml. Bottle. Pours a murky light orange color with a small white head and slippery lacing. Floral, citrus/fruit, and sour in the nose. Great balance between malt, wood, and brettanomyces sour/barn yard flavors. Acidic and creamy at the same time. A beer that is beer well done.

375ml bottle, batch 001, aged a year now. pours hazy orange with small white head. the head and color looks great. nose is pretty sour, white grapes, oak, vinegar, brett, cheese, and soft funky barnyard notes. flavor seems a bit thin and watery, not as sour as i expected, very woody, vinegar, musky, white grapes creates a very white wine feel. the feel is very soft, clean, and crisp. very gueuze esque. i liked this but was expecting more sourness and this to be less watery. perhaps the ph1 is more my speed.

Gotta give a little love for the midget 375 ml bottle....very nice. Elegant straw colored pour...a bit hazy....light whitish head. Really enjoying the musky aroma..old gueuze and cheese. Flavor is all about he acidic, tart, and brett nature...hmm....lotsa fruitiness..light wood, etc. Smooth for the style...funky for sure...not my favorite style, but it had me wanting more---that says a lot. Very nice.

Pours with a clear, golden-orange body topped by a thin to medium thick, white head with little lacing. It’s tart and sour with notes of horseblanket and an underlying citrus note. Light to medium bodied, crisp and a touch dry.
