Huge, in-your-face, acidic aroma of grapefruit, wood, lemon and hot spices. Woody and acidic flavour of grapefruit, orange-peels, imatured grapes and dust. Feels quite light-bodied. Long and really acidic finish of lemon-peels and wood. I loce this stuff. Great!

Bottle. Hazy golden color, fluffy white head. Aroma of dusty and funky attic, peppery cotrus. Taste is softly sour citrus, grapefruit. Nice complexity and character.

The beer is straw yellow, fairly hazy, small white head. The aroma is barnyard funk, lemons, hay. Sour, funky, delightful. Beatification is one of my favorite wild ales from Russian River, so lining up this vertical was a sublime experience for me. PH1 was slightly more acidic than batch 001. Both very tasty.

Very late in rating but a rating none the less. Corked, 375mL stumpy bottle courtesy of Kook back in 2007 at a tasting night. From lost notes.
Produced a heavy gold, shy of bright and soft for carbonation. Head was flailing at this point,, a mere smear of condensed white surrounding the meniscus. Aroma is very hairy; oily horse mane and hessian notes come through from an aggressive Brettanomyces. It has a vinous twitch, tart fruit, light oak but it is all about the yeast in the nostrils. Tart, sour, all yeast and funk, and sadly bile-like like vomit. How can this aide? There is sour fruit, light citrus, rough hessian and lighter oak notes. It just does!! A strange all junk, no funk, Brett and all other overload. Nicely done!!!!

Batch 1 and Batch PH1 served side-by-side at the DC Lambic & Sour Tasting on April 14, 2012. Followed up with batches 2-4. Both served in a Russian River TION goblet. Thanks to ygtbsm94 and craytonic for these two bottles.
PH1: Pours a clear yellow-gold color with a small head and a thin cap afterward. The nose has a good dose of barnyard funk, earth, and a fairly-heavy lemon character. There’s light acetic with the lactic in a way that actually really reminds me of La Folie (at least in the background). Flavor is also lemon and light funk. Moderate-heavy acidity with a light body and very dry finish.
Batch 1: Not nearly as acidic as PH1. This is more mellow with additional funk, and I actually prefer it. Ratings for this would be 8/4/8/4/16.

Batch 001 PH01 - What can I say, this is one of the best beers I have had period, ever. I only got to try a few sips of this beer but I have batch 3 sitting at home. I cannot wait to open it one day, whenever that might be.

Hazy gold beer. Dry crisp palate. Very sour beer, just the right side of total lemon juice. - ie just about drinkable. A small amount of woodiness provides some relief. Not for me thanks.

Batch PH1.
The pour is much like any other batch of Beatification: pale golden with a large white head. Smell is intensely acidic and lactic. Lots of lemon and lemon juice type aromas. A musty funk of oak and grass, sort of similar to actual gueuze. The flavor is amazingly sour, one of the sourest American sours out there. Great lemon/lactic acidity, which is very bright and clean. Grass, straw, and oak along with a touch of earthy funk round out the flavor. Medium in body with a very lively carbonation and dry, puckering finish.

Shared at Grape & Gourmet’s 5th Anniversary by The Beer God (Thanks Mike!). Generously we were treated to both a bottle of Batch 001 and Batch PH1. Both poured pale yellow with a fizzy white head. Sour, funky aroma which was more noticeable in the regular Batch 001 than the PH1. While both were no doubt sour the PH1 seemed to pick up more of the oak and was an easier beer to drink. Beautiful integration of sour and funk. You would be hard pressed to find many sour beers that were better than Beatification.
