Pours a slightly hazy bright golden amber with a big fluffy white head that hangs around for quite a while leaving big clumps of lacing. The smell is huge on floral and citrus hops - grapefruit and pine just jump out of the bottle when it’s opened. The taste is hops galore with grapefruit stinging the tongue with bitterness up front and pine resins lingering on the palate at the finish. There is a hint of the bready hop background, but the hops steal the show here. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy and sticky with hop oils. This is one of the best IPAs I have tasted and especially enjoyable for hopheads like me.

Aroma is orangy as fuck. All of the good IPAs seem to have the same hop profile. All fucking oranges. Some malt complexities- okay, I lied. All fucking caramel and orange. Taste is orange, some bitterness, well, a lot of bitterness, but creamy and smooth. Finish lingers like nobodies business. Awesome.

500ml bottle. I love all the warnings on the label to NOT age this beer! Bottled on 070908. Poured a medium and slightly hazy golden color with a large sized white head. Aromas of pine, citrus, grassy, floral green hoppiness, with some toastiness. Tastes of citrus, pine, a little earthy, with very light caramel in the background.

(Bottle) Pours a clear orange body with small white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, grass, herbs, and earthiness. Flavor of citrusy hops and caramel malt with a dry, bitter finish. A tasty IPA.

Pours a fairly clear gold orange, with a thick, foamy white head. Smells of fresh, crisp, juicy citric hops, with some subtle grapefruit adding some balance. The flavor is smooth and crisp as well, with a nice balanced hop presence, although pretty strong for a regular IPA. Pretty sharp hop bitterness in the finish and lingering aftertaste, with traces of that grapefruit citrus showing up as well. Nicely done IPA, which is no surprise coming from these guys.

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2008 Sample at O’Brien’s in San Diego. Pours a deep bronze color with a medium thin downy white head that diminishes slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Pine and lemony citrus aroma. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with pine, hops and citrus flavors in varying degrees. Some malt is present as well. The finish is hoppy and resinous with a lingering bitterness afterward. Not much to complain about here.

Bottle from Healthy Spirits in SF. Light amber color with a minimal white head. Citrus and pine aromas over somewhat roasted malt. Medium body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is mild malt and primarily citrus hop. Some light stone fruit seems present. Finish is very clean. So tasty it could be a DIPA, but rather than run of the mill it’s an exceptional IPA. I’m enjoying it.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2008 Thanks to Bman1113VR for the bottle! Bottled 7/9/08. Slightly hazy gold pour, fluffy white head and excellent lace. Citrusy/ piney hop aroma. Clean, chewy, and resinous mouth-feel. Light bodied and quite refreshing. Loads of citrusy hop flavor. Bitter & dry finish. Lingering flavor of nectarine.

Bottle, thanks Dr. Bill! Light golden color with a wispy foam that lasts well. Very nice nose, which is dominated by very bright woodsy hops, with other light notes of resin and lemon from the hops. Flavor hoppiness and bitterness is very bold and impressive, and lingers in the finish very well. The hops are raw, pure, well utilized and again, they linger well after the swallow. Flavor hops are similar to the nose and can best be described as very woodsy. A minor critique, it doesn’t have a lot of body, but the finish makes up for it. Overall, really nice IPA.

Bottle, barely two weeks old. Pours a very lightly hazy orange-amber color. A frothy, off-white head settles to a thin, asymmetrical, bubbly layer. Sticky lacing coats the glass in an organic honeycomb pattern. The aroma shows fresh, juicy orange and grapefruit, hints of apricot, bitter, grassy hops, and a lightly toasty toffee malt background. The flavor packages those same elements into an ultra-clean, refreshing package. The citrus asserts itself a bit more, with big-time grapefruit and a touch of lemongrass shutting out any hints of apricot that the nose foreshadowed. The toffee malt imparts just the right amount of sweetness, without getting in the way of the hops or muddling things up. Medium-full bodied and moderately carbonated, the finish is on the dry side and very clean, lending supreme drinkability. This is definitely an "everyday" cousin of Pliny the Elder. Another damn fine beer from Russian River.
