GABF 2006. Amber body with a small white head. Aroma is big piney hops and some grapefruit and orange peel. Taste is fruity and bitter with more evergreen, caramel, sweet malts and citrus peels. Body is medium-full with a resinous, oily feel. Finishes with more piney and citric hops, caramel and sweet creamy malts. Nice IPA, but would you expect anything less from Russian River?

Draft... GABF ’06... Mostly clear golden ale with a small, frothy, off-white head. Earthy, piney, woodsy aroma. The flavor leans just a tad on the bitter side of balance; a pinch of salt. Medium-bodied and astringent with medium carbonation. Lengthy, medium bitter, dry finish.

Somewhat vegetative hop character. This a 90s blast from the harsh hop past. Lots of pine and grapefruit in the nose. Mild malt body that is dominated by the very vegetative bitterness. Astringent finish that makes me grab a Pliny.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2007 Draft. Very pale copper color with a white head. Strong grapefruit and piney aromas. Flavor is bitter and very hop forward with grapefruit, pine, grass and fruit notes. Very crisp. Dry, bitter finish. A true west coast IPA.

GABF 2006. The beer pours to a golden body with a white head. The aroma is awesome. Extreme hopping. Fruity peaches, nectarines, pineapple, simcoe-esque hops. The flavor is malty and hoppy and nicely bitter. Decent bitter resiny palate.

GABF 2006. Clear straw color, light white head. Aroma - nice hops, but malt is evident. Really nice balance of hops and malt flavor. A little light in hop bitterness. Overall, easy drinking, good malt and hops. Bitter in the finish, but just a little light.

Enjoyed this one on draught, this past July, when I paid Russian RIver Brewing a visit. They had four IPA’s on draught the day I visited, and of the four, Blind Pig was my favorite. This beer is a classic example of AIPA just bursting with hop aromas, flavors, and bitterness. This beer pours to a beautiful, slightly hazy, orange color, with a creamy white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is just so zesty, and fragrant. It explodes with big lemon peel/citus and piney hop aromas. The palate is firm, with some good sweet/pale malt, paired with lots of really good, tangy, lemon/citrus hop flavor. Blind Pig finishes with more good sweet malt and tangy hops up front, then ends with a big, mouth puckering bust of lemon/citrus hop bittereness that lingers. Outstanding AIPA, one with such character, yet so drinakble. A fantastic pint at the brewpub, one to sip and savor, and to enjoy with the delicious brick oven pizzas served at Russian River. Well worth a trip out to Santa Rosa, CA to try.
