Ale with currants added and aged in oak barrels.

When we made the Toronado’s 20th Anniversary Ale, we had no idea that it would turn out to be one of our favorite barrel aged beers we would ever make. With that said, we have always wanted to make a dark barrel aged beer using 100% Cabernet Sauvignon barrels but, we never were inspired. That is, until we blended five different beers to make the Toronado beer, the tobacco character from the the dark malts blended nicely with the furit character that developed in blending. So, with Concescration we set out to make a barrel beer using all Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. No, we are not saying that this is a replica of the T-rooms anniversary beer, after all, a beer like that can never be duplicated, and, there was no fruit added to that beer as there is with this one. All we are saying is that it gave us great inspiration to brew Consecration.

Batch 3x3 A: Pours a plum red with excellent clarity. No carbonation evident despite exceedingly audible ’pop’ when cork came out. Looks like a Pinot Noir honestly - beautiful. S: Grape skins, farm, funky horse blanket. The cab bals come through here. Nicely woven with the bacteria in the juice. T: Wow, grapes, oak, grain. French oak. straw, currants play nicely here too. Very complex beer, hard for me to articulate everything going on here. M: Medium body with decent carbonation. Leaves palate a little dry. O: Excellent sour. I prefer the supplication series, but this is a close second from RR. Good job again Vin. Serving type: bottle 04-25-2011

Batch date 1/13/13 12 oz bottles shared amongst the family Xmas gathering, brought from Belmont Station by STEVE! Pours a very dark burgundy/reddish purple with an off white head and some nice effervescence. Aroma has grapes, plums, heavy wine and oak, with spices. Taste is strong, smoothly sweetly fruity with strength, solid oak-y/wine backbone. Full bodied and syrupy. This took some getting used to as it was wild, but was quite excellent.

On tap at City Beer, SF. 2011 version aged in Pinot barrels with currants. Pours a clear copper/amber red with a small tanned head. Nose shows loads of currants as expected, Pinot, tart, brown sugar & cloves. Smells like a good red. Upfront sour currants and red wine barrels on the taste. Syrupy brown sugar like sweetness comes through. Almost like sucking on a warhead the sugary palate is felt. Fucking different shit. Booze is felt at 10% but well hidden. This stuff knocks you around. Great sour beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sort of a dirty mahogany pour with beige head that doesn’t last at all. I think this beer has the noisiest head I’ve every noticed. Sounds like especially violent Rice Crispies. There’s a significant red wine note to the nose with lots of wood and funk. The currants are definitely noticeable as well. There’s also some tobacco in there. Quite sour on the palate with lots of that red wine flavour coming out. Good funk levels with enough fruit to balance everything out. For me the alcohol level detracts from an otherwise excellent brew. The carbonation is also really prickly.

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown color with no head. Nose is wonderfully sour and tart with distinctive Cabernet notes. Taste is a romantic sour tart mixture of fruit, tart citrus and deep tannins . Finishes tartly on the palate, A wonderful sour. Quaff Score 8 / 10
