Ale with currants added and aged in oak barrels.

When we made the Toronado’s 20th Anniversary Ale, we had no idea that it would turn out to be one of our favorite barrel aged beers we would ever make. With that said, we have always wanted to make a dark barrel aged beer using 100% Cabernet Sauvignon barrels but, we never were inspired. That is, until we blended five different beers to make the Toronado beer, the tobacco character from the the dark malts blended nicely with the furit character that developed in blending. So, with Concescration we set out to make a barrel beer using all Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. No, we are not saying that this is a replica of the T-rooms anniversary beer, after all, a beer like that can never be duplicated, and, there was no fruit added to that beer as there is with this one. All we are saying is that it gave us great inspiration to brew Consecration.

On draft at Bigwood 12/6, from notes [1 of 11]. May 2011 vintage. Ruby-red brown, perfect clarity, still surface with only a tiny ring of bubbles around the edge. Aroma is TART black cherry. Taste starts tart, ends sweet with some earthy notes in between. No alcohol burn. Lively carbonation, nice mouthfeel. First beer of what promises to be a very good day. Friends haven’t shown up yet, so I get this one almost all to myself. My feeling from this and the few other Russian River sours that I’ve had is that drinking these beers is like reading Hemingway. It is well-executed and straight-forward -- not simple by any means, but not heavy-handedly muddled with overt complex flavors. Quite tasty.

Bottle shared by Mike. Murky mahogany red with almost no head. Not as tart as I’d imagined. Great berry fruit with some funk. Pretty well-rounded.

Thin head with a deep brown brew that is pretty cloudy when held to a light. Very rich aroma.. very fruity and only mildly funky... tart berries.. whaffs woodiness .. grape bubblegum or soda.. tannic berry skins and an abundant fruitiness... some black cherry essence... maybe even some black caps... more oak than the nose .. a little lactic ... some wet leather and wild strawberry essence shows as it warms ... fantastic body for a sour... carbonation seems abundant but helps balance the slightly heavier mouthfeel ...

Bottle shared, thanks to Santa bytemesis for sending this! Deep reddish brown with short lasting beige head that leaves no lacing. Bitter herbs, dried red fruits, overripe berries, peach, dried apple, sherry, balsamico, light caramel. Light sweet and sour with medium bitterness. Medium bodied with prickly carbonation. Nice, but a bit too herbal for me. Still a pleasure to try it.

@ Russian River 16-3-7: En mycket komplex öl som är vinös med tydliga toner av nötter och russin.. Syrlig och torr.
