Enniskillen (1542), Port Angeles, Washington, USA Aug 7, 2007 Bottle from IrishBoy. Trying after watching the movie The Number 23. It’s an interesting number. Color is a very light amber, with a very thin white head. Aroma is apples, nutmeg, yeast, oak, vanilla. Taste is a heavy vanilla and oak content followed by the traditional Damnation spiciness of nutmeg and cloves; has a light content of alcohol which comes across in a positive way, has a llight sweetness in the end also. This just makes me understand why Russian River is my far and away favorite brewery.
blankboy (2562), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 15, 2008 Bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, tupalev, jerc & garthicus -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy yellow-gold with a small diminishing fizzy white head. Aroma: Lots of oak (but not too much, it’s just right), fruit, funky yeast and herbal hops. Sweet flavour of oak, caramel malt, fruit, funky yeast, alcohol, candi sugar and hops. Dry bitter finish. Alcohol’s fairly well hidden for an 11% beer. Medium bodied. Barrel-aging done right -- a fantastic beer! jerc (3102), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 15, 2008 2008-08-15. Hazy golden body with a small white head. Aroma of wood tinged pale malts, light yeast and alcohol. (7+) Flavour is alcohol soaked pale malt, quite oaky. It is not over the top with the wood, but it is quite dominant. Subtle malt background cannot successfully compete with the lasting impression of oak. (6+) Average plus palate. Nice, but the core flavour is not one I love. Average plus palate. Hazy light orange-gold, decent fizzy-creamy white head. Soft, sweet oaky aroma, sweet fruit medley aroma - the oak ageing is stunning on this. Taste - softer even, wonderful lemon and ripe banana, the oak is even milder than in the aroma, and very muted alcohol for 11%. Soft (again!) body, light acidity and carbonation, a little bitter in the finish. Excellent! Thanks, Richard! illidurit (387), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 6, 2008 Thanks to IrishBoy for sharing this bottle at the RBSG 08 Grand Tasting. Poured into my La Chouffe goblet. Pale gold in color with a white head. The froth reduces to a halo, leaving sticky lace everywhere. Aroma is oak-forward, with banana esters providing sweetness. Flavor is very fruity, mostly banana with accents of tropical and stone fruits. Boozy mid-palate with an earthy oaky finish. Very smooth, classic RR mouthfeel. yespr (6162), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 6, 2008 Bottle at RBSG grand tasting, sketchy notes - I was surely getting drunk but someone VERY kind gave me some of this - thanks a lot :) Smooth aroma. Spiced and caramel also in the flavour and slight woody and spiced finish.
