In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Flavors are yeasty, sweet malts and a bit of bittering hops to balalnce things out. Really smooth mouthfeel. Very tasty and very drinkable. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden body with moderate carbonation and a decent white frothy head. Very pleasant and complex malty/hoppy aroma that carries various notes of bread, yeast, and fruits. Taste is robust and hides the alcohol pretty well. It ends with a long and fairly warming finish. Damn good!

Thanks to madsberg for bringing this fantastic beer along for my first (hopefully not last) and never forgettable train tasting. Unclear golden body, with a beautiful white head; Hugh deep complex and incredible nose: citrus, overripe apple, overripe banana, some white bread and a little yeast; Huge, balanced, strong body with a great and perfect carbonation, soft and sharp at the same time; Into long buttery finish with fresh apple, orange peel, earthy spicy, some bread and a little grain. Simply amazing! I could drink so much more of this beer, which is one of the best balanced American beers I ever had.

Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a white head. The aroma is cheesy, has lots of yeast and notes of pears and apples. The flavour is heavily of fruit - pear sweetness, yeasty, and some alcohol warmth. Nice. Sampled this on a train from Brewday at Ølfabrikken to Københavnske Øldage 2006 on May 19, 2006. Thanks Madsberg.

On tap at Russian River. Awesome yeast-driven esters. Nice alcohol bite. Subtle background british/czech hop flavors. Extra-fermentable turbinado sugar kick helps give this a very dry finish. Best commercial example of a Belgian-Style Strong Golden Ale brewed in the US. An excellent beer.

Botle: This had a deep golden body without much of a head even with a vigorous pour. The aroma is yeasty and fruity with apples, pears, bananas, and a drop or two of sweet cherry juice. Very thick, creamy, and hot in the mouth despite the "modest" (for a Belgian strong) abv. Sweet malts, alcohol, and aforementioned fruits make up the flavor. The finish is dry and moderately bitter. Pretty decent.
