3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pale gold and hazy short white head. Nose of cider, pine gum and yeast. Nose totally carries the character of the beer. Apple and sour jolly ranchers. A little dirty. Modest tart fruit sweetness. Finish is quite clean and although higher in ABV still refreshing and spicey. M’eh!?

Not bad Belgian Strong Ale, but it doesn’t beat the monks. When in need for a strong brew with limited selection, it’s a good fit.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled from bottle (375 ml?) at RBSG. Hazy/oily light gold color with a bit of lasting head, light visible yeastiness...mellow funky/orangy nose with a bit of biscuity yeast....fizzy, limey sour body with quite a lot of bitterness developing towards the finish...light, slightly thin body doesn’t support a hugely flavorful experience...a disappointment on the whole, though well-crafted.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 4, 2007 Bottle. Ratebeer Christmas in Oshawa, December 2007. Light pale pastel yellow, small foamy white head. (4) Mild pale malt aroma, peppery spice. Dry flavour with light lemon and pepper character. Lingering pepper in the aftertaste. A better beer than my rating reflects, but it is not to my taste today. 7/4/7+/3+/15 - 3.6
"No, it was TWO puppets!"

May 2006 Hazy pastel yellow witha good sized white head. Lemon, alcoholicly sweet aroma. Fairly dry flavour, alcoholic malt with light lemon presence. Averag to light palate is pleasantly effervescent. 7/3+/7/3/15 - 3.6

RBSG 2005 One of the beers I had highly anticipated trying tonight, both my first Russian River beer and the one that most intrigued me. My second auction win, at 10 tickets. Light pastel yellow, hazy smallish head. Mild citrus and yeast in the aroma carries over to the flavour, with more citrus and a bit of spice that lingers. Recalls the Southampton Saison i had just prior a bit actually. Good but did not live up to my hopes. 6/3/8/3/13 - 3.3

(750ml bottle) Sampled at the RBSG 2005 in Montreal, Canada. Straw-coloured, clear body with a thin white head. Mildly carbonated with a nose of white ash, wheat, citrus, banana and spice. Very calcium and fruity flavoured with a great peppery finish. Damn nice beer...

Tap (RFD in DC) - Sparkling gold, thick white creamy head. Nice complex nose on this one with citrus, grass, spice candi sugar, pepper, and fresh bread, with underlying herbal tones sprinkled throughout. Flavor up front was spiced citric hops, light sweet grassy notes in the middle, and lighter notes of alcohol rounding it out. Balance was very nice. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry, light spicy finish. Really nice offering from RR...

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. Light and crisply golden in the glass. Resilient head. Wonderful hop aromas of banana, cantaloupe, coriander, clove, and black pepper. To the flavors add caramel and sweet malts and you get the picture. Full mouthfeel on the palate, but too open on the finish. All in all, I’m a very big fan of this big beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
What head! Snow white, creamy appearence in a medium sized head, fair retention and lots of coating lace. Clear, pale straw color on the initial pour, macro.esque. Grabbed that bottle and gave it a good swirl! That clear straw color now has a hazy white glow, ahhhhh, much better! Lovely spicey nose, bananna and a touch of citrus, lightly phenolic. Body is medium light with a spritzy carbonation. Medium sweet malts, wheat and lightly toasted grains, light bananna flavors with melon notes and a light mustiness, peppery and yeasty. Finish is medium dry. Punishment? I think not. Thanks to herbjones for this one!
