In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmasterís interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Bottle @ OMH-tasting
Like a sweet and hoppy Westmalle tripple. Full bodied, fruity some acidness, yeasty and long aftertaste.

Batch 007. Pours slightly hazy gold with a gigantic head that leaves about three and a half coats of lacing. Amazing spicy and yeasty aroma, with banana, cloves, bread, and citrus. Flavor is even better than Duvel, though the middle is a little hot. It has all the spices of the aroma, along with some horseblanket, wheat, and extra cloves. The finish is dry and hopped perfectly (lightly). Very damned good.

Poured from a 750mL bottle slightly hazy and golden in colour. Smells lovely with a pretty traditional nose of banana, bread, and a hint of lemon zest. The mouthfeel is crisp and clean with an abundance of tight but not overwhelming bubbles and a sharp prickle of hops. This is truly an exceptional American interpretation of a Belgian Golden though I donít know that Iíd call it a Strong Ale. Quite drinkable.

Hazy, straw yellow color with a medium soapy white head. Light banana, lemon, yeasty aroma with a bit of a tartness as well. Very banana-bready flavors with a touch of freshly ground nutmeg. Sugary yeasty sweetness coats the tongue in a gently lingering finish. Pleasing overall, but the level of complexitiy leaves a bit to be desired.

Pours a nice golden straw color with medium head and lasting lace. The aroma is classically Belgian with bread yeast, bannana and honeyed sweetness. The flavor is complex with strong sour and bitter finish. Very drinkable and quite good representation of a Belgian.

Thanks to cmaruschak for sharing this bottle. Batch 003: Lightly hazy straw color with a medium thick off-white head that dissipates quickly. Small particles floating freely, and thin sheets of lacing. The aroma is potent fruit (banana and melon) and yeast. Medium-bodied and tart with fruit and peppery spices, along with some hops and malt. The finish is spicy and short with a lingering sweet aftertaste of banana and clove. Very drinkable, and the cacophany of flavors seem to be on the verge of chaos. However, the complexity is restrained enough to be rather enjoyable.

MN Winter Get Together, 2006: Yellow color with a fizzy head. Sour wheat aroma with a balance of sweet honey. Dry malt and wheat taste and some sourness to the finish, along with a mix and match of fruit. Pretty good, but more of a gueuze than golden ale.

Cloudy pale yellow body. Belgian yeast like flavours. Banannas, and what I have come to find is corriander. Sweet fruity aroma and taste. A bit on the thin side. Iím just not feeling the belgian thing with this beer.

Bottle. Pours clear gold in color with a fluffy medium white head that quickly diminishes to thin. Initial aromas of grain, bananas, corriander and dare I say a little mustard in the background. Flavors are apple, pear and some spice. Pretty mild tasting. Carbonated and fairly thin mouthfeel. A touch of alcohol and bitterness in the finish. Overall not bad tasting but a little too carbonated.
