dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Oct 31, 2008 2 year old giant bottle opened at Hamilton’s 2nd Anniversary party. Pours a clear gold with a white head. Aroma is sweet, of malt and yeast, with a hint of sour lemons. Mellow taste, of malt and sweet, preserved lemons. Lingering malt flavors. Had maybe mellowed too much, but still quite tasty. drjay44 (756), Salida, Colorado, USA Oct 31, 2008 750 oz. bottle batch 40 shared with Gabe. Pours a thin head, good duration, lacing comes in later.....nose of yeast, spice, lighter fruits, including grapefruit lots of phenols and esthers....tastes of malts, banana, grapefruit on the finish....carbonated mouth feel. It becomes sweet on the finish as it warms. I like better than Duvel. fredandboboflo (1392), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 31, 2008 Bottle, batch 42. Aroma a delectable blend of sweet and tart citrus notes, orange, lemon, lemon zest, things of that nature, all citric. Flavor was more of a typical Belgian strong for me with a yeasty character and duller citrus notes. Great aroma, good otherwise. LilBeerDoctor (1479), East Setauket, New York, USA Oct 30, 2008 Bottle, batch 41. Pours a cloudy deep orange with a small white head. Aroma of sweet melon, light fruits, and prickly spices. Flavor of tart citrus, lemon, melon, and light bitter hops. Nice mouthfeel- not as astringent and harsh as some Belgians. Nice BSA. jigglyjock (159), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 30, 2008 750ml bottle. Batch 42. Hazy, golden apple juice color with champaine like bubbles. I love they haze in the appearance, it make the beer very appitizing to drink. Brilliant white, moderate, mostely diminishing head, which leave some nice lace behind. Complex, classic belgian golden ale aroma. Apples, clove, banana, honey, and ester muskyness. Taste exactly replicates the aroma. Body is wonderfully viscuos and chewy with generous prickly carbonation Beaver (587), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Oct 29, 2008 750ml bottle, batch 040. Pours a clear yellow with a creamy white head that retains well and laces the glass. The last pour proves it’s bottle conditioned.
The aroma is sweet sugary malts, some banana and clove, and some citrus.
The flavor is sweet sugary malts, citric melon with a little spice. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, it’s not very balanced or complex. It’s far too much towards the sweet side, but I find myself liking it regardless. This is definitely a beer that is greater than the sum of its parts.
grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Oct 26, 2008 Pours golden with a nice white head. Aroma is dominated by spice and yeast. Mouthfeel is full with medium carbonation and spice that hits in the finish. Finish is semi-dry with a lingering yeast and spice. Very drinkable. chrisafari (100), Orange, California, USA Oct 23, 2008 Aroma: easters, banana, pears and spice. Pours clear golden with full fluffy white head, with nice champagne bubbles. Flavor: begins sweet and smooth pear, banana finish is dry and surprisingly hoppy. Medium to light body. Drinkability: medium to high. Very nice golden ale, easy to drink and would be nice during the hot summer months.
