BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Sep 24, 2009 This beer wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be; for some reason I thought this would be more like Damnation’s more extreme barrel-aged stable-mates like Beatification and Supplication. It wasn’t that exactly, but it was a really solid Belgian-style ale. Before I forget, a big thanks to my cousin for bringing this out from the west coast on his journey from CA to RI.
A hazy golden body with a pretty tall white head. Aroma was bread-y, with some light yeast-y and pear-like esters. Flavor was more bread-y than anything else, but again had light and pleasing fruit and yeast esters. Mouthfeel was light and effervescent. Really good. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 23, 2009 Bottle from ericandersnavy. Cloudy and orange in color. A ton of fruit and citrus. Maybe a little too much. Still very enjoyable. Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 22, 2009 This was a beautiful beer. I was sitting at the falling Rock Tap house in Denver and drank 3 russian river brews, this was sandwiched between publication and Pliny. Great ester profile. Very little banana, exactly how I like it. Beer should not taste like banana bread. The phenols were reserved, yet complimentary. Beautiful beer. Gmoney (250), ManchVegas, New Hampshire, USA Sep 19, 2009 bottle..hazy golden pour with a thin, creamy white head. Excellent lace.Sweet aroma of banana ,pear, yeast and alcohol.Flavor mirrors the aroma, surprisingly light in body and tartness .Finishes very dry,and a touch bitter, but very smooth and well balanced. Gypsy19 (602), California, USA Sep 14, 2009 Pours a cloudy light gold with a large frothy head. Aroma is of light fruits and light spice. Very light fruits again in the flavor, and that’s all. Not complex and hardly what normally constitutes a Belgian Strong Ale. Medium mouthfeel and viscosity. Overall, fair plus. RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Sep 13, 2009 Cloudy golden orange with a nice bright white head and excellent lacing and retention. Bright fruity aromas of bananas and pears and plenty of spiciness above a solid sweetish malt base. Flavors are similar to the smell, and include honey, pepper, and yeast. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation, and a clean crisp aftertaste that features, the light fruits. Very drinkable - no evidence of the alcohol at all. Cavie (1300), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Sep 13, 2009 Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Clouded gold pour. Smell has sweet citrus with apple. Some tart aromas. Taste is a nice roasted malt profile with Belgian fruits in the mix. KyotoLefty (1370), Kyoto, Japan Sep 13, 2009 Draught at Henry’s 12th Street Tavern.
Bright funky golden color. Fruity aroma, lemon and honey, funky Belgian yeast, with some weird sweaty apple. Yeasty flavor with honey and fruits, sloppy and uneven with the yeast far too prominent. A big disappointment. What’s with the strange yeast character?
