Commercial Description:
In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Hazy golden/orange in colour, large lingering rocky white coloured head, excellent lacing. The aroma is heavy on the citrus, some mustiness, yeast, floral, light sourness. The flavour is lightly sour, lots of must and yeast, lemons, dusty. Very smooth mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes long, must, with some citrus and a lingering sourness.

Outstanding. Russian River never fails to amaze me. I haven’t had many of there beers but they all seem very well crafted. They are quickly becoming my favorite American brewery.

750ml bottle obtained in a trade with DarkElf back in July 2005, thanks Stephen.

Sampled at Hellbilly’s Hellraiser II. Slightly hazy golden pour with a creamy head. Spicy aroma with malt, fruits and yeast. Sweet fruity, spicy flavor with a good amount of yeast and nice hoppiness on the finish. If this is what damnation tastes like, then bring it on!

Perfect color and smell of banana yeast deliciousness. Perfect palate. Slap of clove spiciness completely hides its ABV yet still allow the mild bitterness to come out. To top it off, the malt is delicious and blends perfectly. Achieves perfection if enjoyed a bit warmer than normal. A highlight of Nor-Cal craft beer.

Bottle. Cloudy light golden color and a lasting white head. Aroma of fruit and banana, Belgian yeast spices, sweet malt, wheat, earthy hops. Flavor is very balanced - sweet, tart, bitter. The palate is amazingly smooth.

Sampled at Hellbilly’s Hellraiser II. 750ml bottle. Pours a clear amber with one finger white head. Nose is Belgian spice, yeast and cloves. Palate is yeast, cloves, hops, dark fruits and a touch of banana. Medium mouth feel. Not a huge fan of the style but this is a decent representative of it.

2005 vintage tasted on 5/17/08 thanks to derkruk and crew! I’ve also tasted this brew fresh. Mellowing out a bit on the hops and gathering a nicely rounded out malt flavor is what 2.5 - 3 years will do to this Belgian style pale. Fully carbonated still, and sliding smoothly across the palate, the flavors of dry fruit and hops, spices and malts continue to explode with joy as they go down the gullet. It’s worth the wait!
