In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Poured from cork and cage bottle. Pours cloudy gold color with foamy white head. Aroma is fruit, malt, clove, and spicy yeast. Flavor is fruity malt with earthy yeastiness, cloves, with a peppery and herbal hop finish. Thanks dsandonato for sharing.

Cloudy dark yellow color with fizzy and foamy off white head that reduces down to a ring around the edge. Smells of tropical fruits and clove spices. Tastes of bananas and spices with some breaded malts mixed in too. Well carbonated with some bite when finishing. Really enjoyed this RR take on a Belgian Strong Dark Ale!

Bottle: Golden honeycomb color at full opacity with a soft, bright white creamy foam on top. Very fine bubbles. Huge Belgian yeast aroma. Banana, clove, bubblegum, white pepper, moderate phenolic heat, tart pear, a bit of hay. Lots of overripe banana in the flavor, followed up quickly with coriander, clove, mint, orange zest, & white pepper. Very bready with a thick cheesy & musty funk character that sustains from start to finish without getting in the way. Finish of spicy yeast, baked bread, lemon zest, & cellar floor. Dry body. Pretty well done; not the biggest fan of the style but this was enjoyable.

Wonderful nose of spice and breads yeast. Smell like you are at the brewery. Some phenolics in good way. Light fruits in flavor and esters. Excellent prickly carbonation. Got better as it warmed up, more fruity esters and champagne like characteristic. Some clove on finish. Excellent!

Une bouteille partagée. 06-27-14.

Bottle. Pale copper in color with an off-white head. Sweet cantaloupe, garden fruits, some spicyness and floral notes. Feels almost tripel like here. Quite smooth mouthfeel. Spicy belgian yeasty notes, some citrus and bit of malts in taste. Some earthyness is present too. Dry in the end.

Bottle from Healthy Spirits - Castro, San Francisco - CA. Color: clear blond beer with small carbonation and small white foam. Smell: domination banana gloves. Notes of wheat malt and some citrus. Taste: nice taste of banana and cloves, wheat taste and yeast notes. It’s not so familiar as a belgium strong ale, it’s look like a mix of belgium ale and german here-weiss. Aftertaste: wheat malt and citrus finish.
