In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Delicious. Clearly inspired by the better Belgians. Always a solid bet - would compare with Ommegang when in the mood for an American Belgian-style

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2014 5/2014 bottle. Haven’t had one in a while -- these used to be pretty regularly available down here but no mas. Shame too cuz it’s a damn fine beer. Beautiful in the glass with lively, delicate carb. Banana and pear on the nose as promised, Belgian-style malts too. Taste is slightly sweet, mouthfeel is very smooth / rich / full. Not my favorite style but an excellent American example. Update: This used to be readily available in LA, these days it isn’t. Perhaps it’s the rarity getting to me, perhaps this is a really good batch, who knows. I’ll just say that the bottle I cracked tonight was about as close to perfection as a beer gets. An incredible representation of grain, hops and yeast. Bumping my rating up a bit -- and if the next one I find is this good it will go even higher.

Bottle. Pours murky light yellow with thin white head that lingers. The wheat aroma is a turn off for me but the taste is smooth and balanced. It's a style I typically avoid but this one is solid. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow! Soft fruity aroma, bananas and pears, cloudy golden with small finely beaded head. Tingles on the tongue, carbonation and alcohol warmth. Light overall, but taste is complex. Slight tart citrus finish.

Pours a hazy gold(makes sense being bottle refermented) with an average white head that slowly shrinks. Aroma is fruity esters, pears, apples, spicy phenols, and soft/perfumy alcohol. Flavour is fruity, pears, apples, spicy phenols, and moderate soft alcohol. Pretty tasty and goes down pretty easy though just short of a Belgian golden strong but is well rounded.

Thanks to cfrancis for this one. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a large dense frothy white head. Aroma of banana and pear with light spicy phenols. Taste is light cloves, sweet malts, earthy hops with a nice smooth spicy and hoppy finish. Excellent bpa with a great smooth finish.

Golden colored, white head. Aroma of some sweet grain almost? Taste is well, more of the same. Not really as impressive as I thought it would be.

Belgian yeast, banana, some grainy flavors. This tastes like a Tripel, which isn’t a style I’m particularly fond of.

Draught. Golden, slightly cloudy opaque pour with a thin off white head. Aroma of yeast, malt, cereal and sugar cookies. Medium bodied with a warming alcohol finish.
