Commercial Description:
In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Editor’s Note: this entry is for all batches EXCEPT batches 23 and 46 <a href=/beer/russian-river-damnation-batch-23-(oak-aged)/74510/>see separate entry.

Sweet aroma of pears and spices. Smooth lively palate. Taste of malt, citrus, and something that reminds me of tobacco. Finishes smooth, dry, and slightly bitter with a lasting perfumy spiceness.

Pours a cloudy golden orange with a big, fluffy, white head. Smells of orange citrus, coriander, slight acidity, and other spices. Alot going on flavor-wise. Alot more cinnamon than I expected. Very spicy. Big coriander flavor as well, with that small hint of sourness in true Russian River fashion. Really easy drinking with nice flavor. I like this brew.

Bottle poured a clear yellow/gold color with a bright white head and great lacing. Aroma was yeast with some banana and sweet caramel. The flavor was clean with a dry finish and some lingering spices. A little more age might drop out some of the alcohol notes, but still a great Belgian.

Hellfire and Damnation!! Ye hast surely Sinned, making such a fine brew! What debaucherous lacing! What lecherous carbonation! And the flavor, my beloved congregation, is pure SIN! Thou hast tempted us greatly, wicked evildoer of well-balanced beer that, surprisingly, goes really well with Spicy Chicken Stirfry. I am powerless against you...

22 oz bottle purchased at Whole Foods in Hillcrest. The smell, and taste remind me of yeasty doughy uncooked bread. Im not a fan of this style yet. One of my favorite breweries, but this style just isnt for my palate.

From a 750 ml corked and caged bottle purchased from the Brewpub in Santa Rosa and consumed just two days later. So much for aging. Bottle conditioned so you have to decant it fairly carefully it poured a slightly hazy golden to orange color with a big foamy head that settled fairly fast and left moderate lacing. Nose is first banana, and then a swirl of the glass brings forth citrus, spices, and flowers. Mouthfeel is very smooth and the flavors mirror the nose, only a little more muted than you might expect. Finish shows a hint of the hops and brings a nice bitterness, and again the fruits come into play. A very good Belgian Ale and remarkably easy to drink.

From C&C 750. Clear orange hued pour with a light white head. Nose is lightly fruity, with hints of white wine. Robust flavor follows the nose. Dry, smooth finish. Palate is nicely carbonated. Commercial description is spot on.
