Commercial Description:
In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Editor’s Note: this entry is for all batches EXCEPT batches 23 and 46 <a href=/beer/russian-river-damnation-batch-23-(oak-aged)/74510/>see separate entry.

750 mL bottle purchased at Monument Wines in Concord, CA. Batch 011. Aroma is estery with lots of banana yeast notes present. Light citrus and light grassiness in the nose, too. Not overly complex aroma. Mildly hazy yellow-golden colored body with a large, rocky white head and nice lacing present. Lightly sweet banana flavors to start. Turns a little biscuity. Finishes with a light dry hoppiness and a little burnt flavor. A little alcohol comes through. This just isnt anything special at all.

Lightly hazed, golden/amber appearance with a thick, white head and moderate lacing. Yeasty, fruity aroma, some spicyness. Sweet, but not cloying, taste, lightly spiced, with hints of tree ripened fruit. Smooth, lush, full bodied mouthfeel; nicely carbonated. Lingering, peppery finish.

Hello Russian River. A darker golden color with nice head and lacing. Aroma is sweet, belgian malts, gummy bears, a small bit of fruit in there too. Tasting this is coats your mouth, thick almost syrupy, more fruit and spice come out as it warms. Tasty stuff.

A delicious representaion of a Belgian strong ale. Pours a hazy yellow/orange. Smelled of spiced fruit and bubblegum. Great carbonation kept the beer alive and refreshing throughout the whole 750ml. Thanks HopHead75.

750ml courtesy of Ross. Batch 10. Pours golden with a white head. Nice aroma of sour lemon, pear, and a hint of clove. What a nice mouthfeel, soft and subtle without being watery or thin. Semi sweet belgian malt flavor. Medium bitter finish, with a slight chalky texture, joined by a hint of pepper, clove and alcohol. Very well done, and not from Belgium. Thanks Ross! Now all I want to know what the danes think of this one.

Tapped at Lucky Baldwins, pasadena, calif. This was a very nice beer and had a good slightly sweet flavor. Clear, short head. Has that nicely fruity sweet belgian thing and a crisp finish. I would like to have this again and certainly will if I find it on tap!

Bottle from trade with realale420. Thanks Brian! Pours light hazy golden color with big fluffy head. Aroma of yeast, hops and citrus. Taste is slightly astringent with the presence of fruit and alcohol. Has a different flavor that makes you take another sip to try and sort them out. Finishes with a light bitterness.
