mgmike4 (29), valencia, California, USA Sep 8, 2006 draft: very enjoyable beer...would go really well with white meats. the aroma consisted of small notes of banana and spices. The flavor is sweet (not overly) and it isn’t ruined by a sour vineuos flavor which some BSA are. The palate was smooth and clean. duff (5474), Surrey, Greater London, England Sep 7, 2006 Bottle. Golden in colour. Aroma is citric, hoppy and yeasty. The palate shows some lively carbonation, with some citric yeastyness and some grassy hop notes, with a slightly warming, peppery/spicy finish, quite flowery, with some light apricot fruit notes. very pleasant. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 2, 2006 Bottle, batch 007 (thanks to Todd V.). Bright honey color with a thin white head. Nose is sweet and a tad malty, with cider notes and some yeast. Nice bright flavor, with decent bitterness and pleasant yeast hints. Also nice floral notes with a pleasant freshness. Great mouthfeel, smooth and refreshing and nicely carbonated. A nice take on a belgian, very triple-esque. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Sep 2, 2006 750 ml brown, Belgian style bottle.
Batch number 007, if that makes a difference. Corked & caged. Poured out a light golden yellow color, with a thick, meringue like tan colored head. Served in a Chimay chalice. Full effect of aromas are present. Pears, dried fruits, some slight apple notes, along with slight citrus & sweet caramel malts in the aromas. Very slight nutmeg in the background. Flavors are a wonderful mix of dried tropical fruits, along with Bartlett pears, black pepper, slight citrus fruits, and earthy hops. Medium mouthfeel, thick & rich body. Damned good take on the style if you ask me. greenhorn1 (458), Mission Viejo, California, USA Sep 1, 2006 Thanks realale420 for the bottle trade. pours a straw color with a three finger head with high carbonation. Aroma is spicy with banana esters. Taste has a light creamy mouthfeel with tastes of spices, pear and straw. Slight bitterness that lingers for a short period. Nice belgian ale. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA Sep 1, 2006 Lots of overripe fruit, spice, medicine, alcohol, banana and some metal. Good overall, a nice, rounded Belgian. BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Aug 31, 2006 750 mL bottle provided by realale420. Pours light gold, very bubbly, fast-rising bubbles, tall foamy-rocky white head, lasting, with sticky lacing. Aroma is yeast (dough, barn, earth), banana and pear, malt (meal, straw, cereal) and flowers. Medium sweetness, alcohol dryness, moderate acidity, malt and yeast body, banana and pears, floral and spicy finish. Medium to full bodied, foamy and fizzy, spicy, clean palate. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2006 Matt (drbayern) pops my cherry with this brewery by sending me a bottle of this. Golden colored pour, looks very similar to duvel. Smell is lemons, spices, yeast, citrus, and some hops. Taste is rich and flavorfull, full of coriander and fruits. Pretty damn good actaully, the first american brewer to get the beligan style beers right since allagash got it going several years ago. nice beer, too bad its not around these parts.
