Commercial Description:
In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Batch 01 from eyedrinkale. Pours a cloudy yellow with a nice white head. Nose is lemony and spicy, with earthy scents. Mouth is a comfortable bitterness that is smooth and pleasant. feels good in the mouth. Nice and citrusy.

750mL bottle. Cloudy yellow orange with floaties. Large white fluffy head. Sweet and mildly spicy aroma. Caramel, raisin, and biscuit malt flavors. Mild Belgian yeast esters in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium, full, and fairly smooth.

On tap at Toronado. Slightly hazy golden color with a thin white head. Aroma was of yeast, spices, some light citrus, and sugar. Flavors were sugary and spicy with a light citrus note and a bit of hoppiness toward the finish. Not too thick and heavy, pretty easy to drink quickly. Great stuff.

Big bottle with champagne cork. Clear, deep golden colour with a big head. Yeasty aroma with a solid dose of banana and alcohol. Sweet, warm alcohol, banana flavour, dry, yeasty and bitter finish. Full-bodied, medium carbonation. A nice interpretation of a Belgian Golden Ale (but on the way the banana flavours make you think you have ended up in Bavaria). Still a beer full of character.

On tap at The Alembic in San Francisco. Slightly hazy golden yellow, moderate puffy white head. Soft banana and vanilla aroma. Same flavours, along with some ginger spiceiness, a little yeasty. Very nice.

Bottle, batch 004. Pours golden with a tall white head that leaves good lacing. Fruity aroma with hints of citrus. Nice blend of hops and malts in the flavor with a touch of spices. Medium body. Dry. Starts sweet but ends bitter. (Rating from June ’07)

Bottle is pretty bubbly and has a small head. Aroma of spice and light pale malts. Taste is a bit sweet with balanced bitter and sout notes. Some fruityness but it is pretty light. Overall nice brew.
