In the great beer producing country of Belgium, some brewers have made it a tradition to give their beers an unusual name. Sometimes the name is curious, now and then it is diabolical and other times it is just plain silly. Damnation is our brewmaster’s interpretation of a Belgian style Strong Golden Ale. It has extraordinary aromas of banana and pear with mouth filling flavors of sweet malt and earthy hops. The lingering finish is dry and slightly bitter but very, very smooth.

Bottle. The pour was a medium gold in color with an average sized (1-2 finger) white frothy head that was mostly lasting, eventually reducing to a thick foamy cap which produced some really nice sheets of lacing. The aroma was of a grain malt, citrus hops and a strong moldy yeast with notes of banana, green apple, pears and a mild peppery spice. The taste was good and malty with a nice strong note of citrus in the beginning and then became very yeasty and mildly bitter with notes of green apple, pears and had a bit of spiciness towards the end. The flavor stayed with you for a really good long time with a spicy yeast finish that was left laying on the taste buds well after all other flavors faded. Mouthfeel was medium in body and dry in texture with a good strong prickly carbonation. Overall an exquisite Belgian Ale with a complexity of flavors blending together extremely well, forming a fantastic tasting brew...

Draft at Monk’s (Phila, PA). Pours hazy yellow/gold with tall head. Aroma is floral and fruity...didn’t make out pear but banana was there. Taste is tart, dry and smooth. Belgian spiciness with some mellow malt and fresh, pine-y hops.

Sweet malty nose with some hop background. Golden color and a malty flavor. Hops hit at the end to clean the palate. Sesionnable if you can handle the alcohol.

I get typical spicy yeasty bananaie aroma from this hazy golden ale with a nice white head. I get crisp at first then yeasty deliciousness with a slight alcohol feel. Its a medium bodied brew worth a try for sure.

Bottle. Pours a hazy clear gold with a high, large-grained, lacy soft off-white head. Nose is honey, stone fruit, rose, geranium, and tropical fruit. Lightly sweet on the palate, with more honey, floral, and fruit notes, offset by a earthy or sandy undertone; a very nice balance. Finish is long, fruity, and drier. Really, really nice, and nowhere near as over the top as the name would portend.

Cloudy yellow fast dissapating head. Aroma of fresh barley, slight wheat. Tastes buttery, fresh yeast, wheat, sweet. Pretty refreshing for a strong.
