Draft at Russian River. My second last glass of the day. There will be further notes on this when I actually rate Russian River, but I DO want to note just how incredible a time I had there. My server (whose name I regrettably forget) had us for lunch on both the 13th and 14th, and really seemed to understand how this was a "trip to Mecca" for me, and really went above and beyond for both of our visits. A massive thumbs down to the city of Santa Rosa for their $35 parking ticket after I spent over $300 at Russian River for being 2 minutes over their Draconian 2 hour maximum. They literally ticketed me between loading my box of growlers, and my box of bottles. That is no way to treat tourists in a recession. Pricks. Anyhoo... Draft at Russian River. Pours a glowing deep golden orange, Thin white head, quite persistent, great lacing. Nose is spicy yeast, big soap, with light fruit and spice. Flavours of earthy hops, damn this is earthy... Nice broad spiciness throughout, and some light fruit, but damn, itís like getting dragged face-first over a gravel-bar. In a good way...

On tap 2 oz. sample at the Russian River brewpub in Santa Rosa, CA. Part of a 10 beer "Belgian Sampler," which is a bit much to try to keep straight, even with written notes. Hazy, sparkling, straw color with white head and good lacing. Hoppy, funky aroma of pine, lemon citrus and yeast. Taste is tart, hoppy, bitter and funky with pine, citrus and caramel flavors. Medium/light body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the brew pub, served in a tasting glass. Pours clear pale straw with a small white head. The head fades to a thin cover, but leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose is somewhat spicy with coriander along with pale grains and a lemon-citric quality. There is a faint hint of dust as well. The flavour starts out lightly sweet and lightly bitter, but soon becomes moderately bitter with a spicy note. The finish is long and spicy, with ginger, coriander and clove. On the palate, it is light in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice saison, providing plenty of spice and a long, spicy ginger finish. A fairly complex brew. 2011-06-09

Location: I got to sample some of this from a growler after Nickís wedding

Aroma: The nose is floral, some funk, and citrus and tropical fruits
Appearance: This one has a golden pour with a white head atop it
Flavor: The taste is much like the nose, with funk, hops, and fruit flavors
Palate: The body is medium (plus), somewhat crisp, with a chewiness
Overall Impression: Iím really glad that I got the opportunity to try this one. It was really good. Another winner from Russian River!

Draft at Monkís Cafe. Pours a dark golden orange with paler yellowish orange hues. Slightly hazy with a 1.5 finger white head that slowly fades into lasting cap. Streaks and spots of soapy lace left behind. Slightly earthy, funky aroma with subtle barnyard notes, especially hay, grass and straw. Theres a nice funky brett presence thatís countered by subtle crisp hops and light fruit notes. Medium bodied and fuller than expected with a nice dry, funky brett presence along with some zesty spice, bready yeast and light fruit. Lots of peppery spice, coriander perhaps, complimenting the funky brett. Thereís also a nice bread/yeast flavor that adds complexity and fullness tithe palate. The funky, earthy character is countered perfectly by the sweeter notes. Hints of apple, pear and subtle alcohol. This beer is very complex and extremely quaffable. One of the better saisons Iíve ever had. I went back for several glasses until the keg was gone. Highly recommended!

Russian river erudtion. Growler thx to Moejuck... Pours a golden mostly transparent pour with a thin to medium soapy white head... Aroma of Belgian yeast notes with crisp and tangerine notes. Fairly assertive... Flavors are much if the same with floral citrusy notes with a mild bitterness throughout. Lively carbonation. pretty standard yet still completely drinkable.

On draught at RRBC. Nice crisp sour aroma. Golden orange and hazy with white head showing good lacing. Head lingers, especially collaring. Clean sour taste hides medium-thin mouthfeel. Puckering on the edges. Sweetness of malt is main player besides sour. Minimal spiciness in mid to late palate.

Growler thanks to John Aitchison. Pours with a clear golden body and a massive and lasting creamy white head with good lacing. Aromas are strongly estery and phenolic, hints of lemon and light herbal hops. Malt profile is in the background, but it is mostly bready and a bit grainy. Some pear notes along with hay and a bit of sweetness. Flavors are peppery, estery, citrus, light tart acidity in the finish with hints of lemon. Medium bitterness. Decently dry. Malt note of hay and bread. Lively bubbles, relatively light bodied. Tasty.

On tap at the brewery. Notes of meadowsweet, lemon grass, ammonia, and dry grains. Somewhat unexciting.

Thanks to nerd for bringing this among about a billion other things. Served in a SAVOR snifter. Pours a nice clean golden color with a good white head with nice retention. Sticks around for a bit before falling down. The nose carries a nice bit of light grain plus a good amount of funk, though in a restrained way. Some floral hops and light citrus character as well. The taste combines the fruity elements of the beer with the slightly-spicy saison yeast quite well. Impressive, to say the least. Really nice carbonation and a crisp finish, just as a saison should be. As is always expected from Russian River, a very well made beer. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 05-11-2011
