Each time we make this ale we pick a different single variety of hops and use them exclusively in the brew. The malt bill stays fairly consistent from batch to batch so as to allow the distinctive hop flavors to come through. Here are just a few of the hops used in the past: Simcoe, Vanguard, Sterling, YCR-004, Amarillo, Satus, Santium, Tomahawk, and Columbus. Available on draft seasonally.O.G.: 1.060;50 BUíS

Tap: Pours dark clear gold with a one finger white head. The nose is fresh citrus and malt. The taste is citrus, toffee and light pine in the finish. Medium bodied. Nice IPA.

100% Cascade Cross Aroma is mostly hops with a nice grapefruit citrus and light pine note. There is a malt backbone present though with some sweet bread and cracker notes. Pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head that perseveres as a thin film on top and on the edges. Good lacing with small legs. Flavor is rather hop forward but it does have balanced cracker and bread character to balance the hops. The hop character is grapefruit and pineapple with some pine resin to balance out the fruit. The bitterness is fairly moderate which really allows the malt to shoe through in the finish in a bready way. Mouthfeel is medium to medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a good beer and definitely not retired, but its not their best. The balance is nice, but the finish to this hop is a bit lacking and has a slightly odd grassy note.

10 ounce sample on tap at Russian River. 100% Cascade Cross Pale Hops. Aroma is pretty faint. Lightly piney hop nose. Light sugary sweetness, too. Not too much happening here. Moderately hazy orange body with a white head and OK lacing. Starts with light piney and a slight cheesy flavoring. Decent malt sweetness in the middle with some milky malt notes. Finishes with very mild bitterness. Well-crafted, but pretty bland.

T - citrus and piney hopes up front. Light fruity palate. Fresh orange and pineapple, white grape juice. Lingering caramel malts with fruit tones. O - nice light subtle beer. 3.5 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fresh growler shared at a BBQ. Pours pale orange/yellow, a bit cloudy with a nice white head. Swirled around a bit to unlock the carbonation. No legs, slight lacing. Very odd aromas of sour fruit, pear skins, and some floral hops. Doesnít really fit the IPA tag, more of a fruity Belgian pale or something. Taste is somewhat similar with that odd fruit flavor, bready finish, slight bitterness. Not really any citrus, but more of that earth, floral hops. The beer has a nice mouth feel overall, with medium carbonation. Not sure what hops were used this year, but I am not sure I am a fan. Seems like an odd release for Russian River, but Iím glad they keep producing small pub only beers to keep visiting the brewery fun and interesting.

Growler, courtesy of a friend. Thanks, yo! Cascade something variety? Pours a murky, honey-orange color; off-white head with fine-bubbled lacing. A bit of basic, floral and herbal hop character in the aroma; not much here, oddly. Medium body; lively carbonation; again, basic crystallized sugar and earthy, floral hops; definitely not an IPA, and a pretty bland pale ale. Totally an odd release from Russian River, and I think the Cascade ______ hops arenít doing much here. Eh. Balanced finished of candy sugar and light bitterness.

A: The pour is a golden orange color with a somewhat minimal head and nice lacing. S: The nose contains some herbal, earthy, and citrus (oranges) from the hops. Not much in the way of malt in the nose. T: The taste is much like the nose. Not overly bitter, but a definite presence. Noticeable orange flavor as well. M: On the lighter side of things, which is by no means a bad thing in this case. D: Very drinkable as it is not overpowering like some of the other hoppy Russian River beers.

On tap. Meh. Itís hard to get excited with this beer, even if it is RR. Give me their house IPA any day. The aroma has a nice showing of citrus and a touch of iced tea. Flavor has some minor citrus character, a touch of bready malts with a lingering bitter finish. Great idea, just a so-so beer.
