Each time we make this ale we pick a different single variety of hops and use them exclusively in the brew. The malt bill stays fairly consistent from batch to batch so as to allow the distinctive hop flavors to come through. Here are just a few of the hops used in the past: Simcoe, Vanguard, Sterling, YCR-004, Amarillo, Satus, Santium, Tomahawk, and Columbus. Available on draft seasonally.O.G.: 1.060;50 BUíS

A: The pour is a golden orange color with a somewhat minimal head and nice lacing. S: The nose contains some herbal, earthy, and citrus (oranges) from the hops. Not much in the way of malt in the nose. T: The taste is much like the nose. Not overly bitter, but a definite presence. Noticeable orange flavor as well. M: On the lighter side of things, which is by no means a bad thing in this case. D: Very drinkable as it is not overpowering like some of the other hoppy Russian River beers.

On tap at Russian River, pours a clear golden copper with a small white head. Aroma is very nicely hoppy, with notes of pine and floral hops. Flavour is quite strong for a pale ale, more like an IPA, with notes of pine, floral hops, and just enough crackery malt to back. So piney on the palate. Highly drinkable and thirst-quenching. Excellent beer.

Draught at the Russian River Brewing Co, Santa Rosa, CA.
Tardif version.
Clear golden colour with a small white head. Mild sweet hops in a mild aroma. Mild bitterness and mild hops in the flavour. A bit faceless hop variety.

Idaho #7 version.
Clear golden colour with a small white head. Sweet fruit, tangerine and soda hops in an amazingly delicious hoppy aroma. Soda hops, moderate bitterness, dryness and orange peel in the flavour. Very tasty.

Iím not quite sure how the rate this as these two varieties of this beer are completely different. Iíll go with the Idaho #7 version.

Draft - Hop 291 - Floral and sweet tropical fruit. Clear pale gold with a thin white head. Lots of tropical fruit with a hint of bitterness. A little too tropical and sweet, but still nice.

On tap at the brewery. This blonde ale poured with a thin off-white head and a floral aroma. There is a smooth caramel malt flavor and sigificant bitterness produced by the tasty Sterling hops. Itís both light and bitter.

"(Sterling hops version) a clean, simple, slightly citrus aroma and flavor. it was quite good, and I love the idea of highlighting each hop veriety, but their other hop bombs are better."

draft at Russian River, solid IPA but has some tough competition on its own draft board. medium bodied, citrusy, some mango. Overall, a nice IPA that took a back seat to Blind Pig & Pliny

Tap, 2013, experimental hop #462. Pours ultra clear amber orange, small beige head, great lacing. Aroma is light, piney, caramel. Flavor is about the same, light sweet and light bitter, but the finish has medium bitterness and a bit of a metallic note. Light body. Meh.
