From a growler purchased at Russian River by calir1 (a HUGE thanks to Kelly for this one). Pours dark orange with a fluffy white head. The aroma is pure piney and grassy hops. The flavor doesn’t dissapoint; the hops are huge yet the beer overall doesn’t seem heavy. The flavor, while extremely hoppy, does have a nice malt profile that helps balance this beer. I can’t help but compare this beer to one of my other favorite IPAs, Ballast Point Big Eye IPA. Since I am trying this from a growler that was filled approximately 96 hours ago it doesn’t quite live up to Big Eye but it isn’t far off. This is an outstanding IPA.

On tap at RR. Think Pliny the Elder in a straight jacket. It’s a dulled down version of the DIPA masterpiece. It’s hard to not be jaded after knocking back the Younger and the Elder first..

draft at Russian River, medium golden orange pour. Piney, citrusy hops fill aroma & flavor. good solid bitterness, but the reins seem pulled in a bit. Still very good

Good pale ale however compared to the other beers I sampled it was rather bland. Still a great brew but not one I would sample if I had to pay for it.

UPDATED: FEB 8, 2011 Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a hazy golden-orange color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Pine and malt aroma. Medium body with flavors of cinnamon, pine and malt. The finish is sweetly spiced with a malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Draft @ Tustin Brewing. Nose is heavier on the pine than most of RR’s IPA’s. Taste is more of the pine, dry, peripheral fruits. Leans heavy on the pniey bitterness throughout. A good beer, but why do they even bother with this one when they’re doing Blind Pig and PtE? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with this beer, it’s pretty tasty, but ?

Really happy to find this on tap at Live Wire. Medium Piney nose. Medium body. In the mouth it is very piney. Love it. A good Christmas beer ??haha. Very balanced in that the solid body lets the hops talk without running away with the show. A true masterclass in beer making without kicking you in the bollocks or whacking you over the head with over abundance.
