4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 gorditoabd (465) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 12, 2010
On draft at Toronado. Hue is classic IPA amber with maybe 1 finger of foam. Aroma is pure pine, resin, and thick caramel. Initial sip is a touch watery at the start, but then the anticipated bitterness kicks in, followed by a pleasant lingering journey through the pine needles, evergreen, mint, sage, and faint pine sap. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy, but far from cloyingly so. Lovely.

On tap at Toronado. Pours a nice light orange with a decent fluffy head and aromas of pine and resin. Flavor is sharp, with lots of that resiny hops presence throughout. Malt is a light biscuit and sweet orange presence that peeks out between the waves of the hoppiness.

Pint at the brewpub. Clear amber pour with a thick beige head. Aroma of grassy hop and some malt. Flavor is earthy and grassy hop with a bit of malt.

At the brewery. Pours transparent amber. Amazingly biter, light, and delicious. Could be a great session ale. Less resin that Blind Pig and a bit weaker. By itself this is startlingly tasty. Resembles New Belgium’s Ranger IPA quite a bit.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KimJohansen (10337) - Copenhagen V, DENMARK - JUL 25, 2010
Clear golden with a large off white and creamy head. Aroma was hoppy with pine, grapefruit and lemons. Hoppy flavour with plenty of pine, grapefruits, lemon and pale malt. Finished dry and bitter.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 joeneugs (1423) - Livermore, California, USA - JUL 9, 2010
Pours golden with an orangy head. The aroma is very fresh citrus fruit explosion with subtler hints of tropical fruit. The flavor is extemely hoppy and bitter. Less balanced than blind pig or Pliny. Hop heads will rejoice!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MartinT (6150) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 28, 2010
My Bottom Line:
This impeccably executed India Pale Ale relies on its rampant citrusy fruitiness and earthy minerals to provide quite the dryish, fragrant quaffer.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the shiny golden.
-The aroma is not as bright as the flavour profile.
-Malts offer crunchy cereal flavours, but they let the hops take control of this party.
-This may not be the most distinctive example of the style, but its execution and brightness make it a great pint.
On tap at the brewpub.
